Just yesterday, my mother-in-law referred to my figures as dolls. They honestly, swear to god, cannot tell the difference. Almost a slap in the face because clearly, to us at least, these RM figures and the "Ken" doll are MILES, MILES, MILES apart.

i have a little boy that will be born anyday now....so i know that the first thing that will go will be the expensive custom collecting
Congrats on that Levit! It gets tougher and tougher with kids, because there are costs you can't even anticipate right now, but you may be able to make it work if you budget the right way. I've been able to do it so far, though I have had to cut ties with certain other segments of my collection.

Rainman himself calls them dolls :lol

Don't kid yourselves guys, it's boraderline insane absurd. There's no way to really justify this I'm afraid. Yes its amazing handcrafted and inanely intricate product but it's still a doll from a movie and it's 1500 bucks.

We all belong in the asylum.. I'm just glad I'll have some company there with you all :D

This SOOO damn speaks to the truth.
Think about it, its a damn mortgage payment, a down payment on a car, a washer AND dryer, a refrigerator, etc...
Thank God i like to bash/build my own figs( i only have 2 full customs, out of 40+ figs) I would have a small fortune on my wall if i had actually bought full sets! lol.

You cannot store food in the Bickle Figure but I'd still rather have it over a refrigerator ;)

Seriously though it is a bit absurd it's hard to argue against that but as long as nobody forces themselves into financial difficulty buying them then what's the problem? As long as the bills are paid and there's food on the table spend some of or all the rest on something that makes you happy.

I couldn't care less what anybody things about the way I spend MY money lol

Rm doesn't know what he is talking about....LOL...:pfft:...they are collectibles...as i always state to my wife...mother...mother in law...friends...to which they say...if it has clothing and "accessories" and is the same size as a barbie...then they are dolls.....LMAO

Pretty solid logic right there ;)

We could be spending all our money on a lot worse, drugs or a gambling addiction but this is good clean fun right?

For sure, im never one to critique how someone else spends their hard earned cash.(at least not in public, lol)
If you can afford it it all good, collectors do spend some AMAZING cash
chasing the latest grail.
I also collect WWI gear, and if my significant other knew how much i spent on a Tommy tank mask, i wouldnt be posting here today, lMAOO

That's a good justification that my wife actually uses to help enable me. I do have an addictive kind of personality, so better it gets channeled through something like this than heroin or whatever :lol

Another good rationalization is that, if any of us decided to up and quit tomorrow, we could make a small fortune selling our dollie. . .er, collectibles on Ebay. Better than those schmucks who gamble away their Social Security checks. Am I right? :hi5:

I'm imaging a police raid...cops tearing the heads of RM figures looking for the drugs lol

Hahaha

I'd be all like ok ok just let me disassemble the figures so you can get what your after, just don't hurt Wonka he did nothing wrong :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

I think most people that collect have some sort of addictive nature for sure. This are something you can at least get money out of if you sell.can't say the same about Beanie babies.

Man those people lost a fortune and it could happen in any facet of collecting. Buying for monetary value when it comes to collectibles is a dangerous game

i really thought i had beaten something back by bypassing the pulp fiction set....i really did...and then Bickle happened....up until sunday...i thought i was going to get just the clothing set...then Rm came through and offered alot of things not mentioned before...and then "the habit" grabbed me by the nuts and squeezed....i had no choice...lol
