well i suppose the VIP thing is possibly a moot point anyway since it takes a couple dx or full sets+1 H&C.
i mean i just qualified for it and i've only ever grabbed(directly) 1 fs, 1 H&C, 1 C and a bunch of HS. took about a year. and i sat out three releases in that time

idk exactly how true such claims are which is why i mentioned it tentatively but i do think that if something like previous purchase tally is implemented then it would become almost a necessity for people who wanted to retain vip status. sorry if i was unclear in my post.
and as for the truth of 'flipping', the only thing i have really seen that i can say comes closest is recently some ebay dealers have been buying figs and sculpts and marking them up for sale but i dont know that this is what everyone means by 'flippers'.

A few people keep bringing up the 'flipping' issue how often does this really actually happen? Of course you get the usual after event sales. Real life intervenes and they need the cash or they simply just don't want the figure anymore and want to put the cash towards something else. But a few in here are making out there are multiple users who actively seek multiples just to sell for a profit I've seen no evidence to support these claims whatsoever have I missed something?

This. I also think people get caught up in the hype, talk themselves into it, then decide to sell it after the luster wears off. If there are, say, 50 of a figure out there, then 10 people doing this (not an unreasonable number) is a 20% turnover. That might seem like people flipping for profit, but it could really be something far less mischievous.

think the reality is that people get over excited when a new release is up or are anticipating a certain fig only to find soon after receiving it that they didnt really want it so much as got swept up in all the hype on the boards and/or arent as impressed with it in hand--at least not enough to swallow the cost of an RM figure set.

i think maybe there have been people who tried to more than make their $ back on a very recent release--which could account for the board hostility--but, agreeing with it or not, i dont know that i would be able to deny the supposition that since its RM work, it's immediatlely worth more. idk. dont think its necessarily malicious, and the market tends to dictate itself anyway so we are all to blame for something like that happening. i myself have definitely paid a little more than i feel comfortable admitting for figs--rare or not.

The problem with the open ended edition size is RM is only one man. Bickle is a very very heavy release so not all would be the same but I get the impression this is his limit. He added an additional 5 DX sets and still he had requests to make more it's just not possible.
That also makes some sense, but if edition size stays the same, yet popularity grows and more VIPs are created every release, then you're just going to have fewer VIPs having an advantage, and more mad scrambling to get pre-orders in at any point. But pre-orders from Rainman have always been stressful as long as I've followed them. Hell, the Dude sold out before the regular release window even opened, and that was over two years ago. But the number of VIPs currently out there seem to speak to an issue of increasing demand and relatively stable supply.

You may be right on the tally system/ last 12 months purchases. Could create a culture of over buying for fear of losing status. I dunno how many would do it though lol thats a lot to out lay to keep VIP for the sake of it! Granted anything RM could be sold to get your money back (were back to the flipping argument :lol) but a lot of cash to tie up. Just throwing out ideas I don't think RM has any desire to change anything tbh its rare for VIP to blow up like it did with Bickle the system as it is seems to work. Bickle was the exception as oppose to the rule it would seem.

maybe he just has to increase the $ level to become VIP...
would knock me out from contention but i guess id understand. i mean if he increased edition size, either quality would suffer or he'd have to take a pay cut so he could hire more help.
either that or ship the release in waves based on purchase order... though that would still swamp him or reduce the number of figures he might be able to put out a year..

I don't think this has happened yet (putting aside the DX/double full set thing of Bickle). Pre-orders from Rainman have always been stressful as long as I've followed them. I wonder if the TTM22 slim might not be better?

That was my first thought but it really is ****ing tiny lol its the legs more than anything. The 22 has these pathetic chicken legs lol

Its also an option though probably more fitting to De Niros build at the time
