Also, Mad Max
A lot of the acting in the older movies isn't very good true, but I felt in FVJ it was at an all-time low.
I don't know if I agree with this. Sure, we've got better technology nowadays, and at least the potential for better special effects (though the CG overkill sometimes works to the detriment of that, for example in a movie I'm watching right now--John Wick), but on balance, movies aren't much better written, acted, or directed today vs. 30, 40, 50 years ago. I think some of the dramatic films from the '40s are way better than some critically acclaimed movies nowadays. You had some crap then, you have some crap now, you had great films then, same now from time to time. But if you're just talking horror films, I still don't agree. Recent stuff like the Saw films, REC, Paranormal Activity, Rob Zombie's movies, etc. aren't all that great, or even very good most of the time in my opinion. I think it's just a stylistic shift. Things today do still go over the top, but mainstream horror movies revel in the cynical, unpleasant aesthetics more than the older films did IMO. Back in those days, that stuff existed, but it was more underground in films like Texas Chainsaw, Last House on the Left, or Maniac. And again, you have a shift to found footage stuff, ghost possession, and the torture porn, that will no doubt shift over to something else in a few years. I didn't find the acting in the Reboot or Freddy vs. Jason to be particularly better or worse than most of those older films, though I certainly wouldn't be lumping most of the actors in those films with Daniel Day Lewis or whatever. Kevin Bacon was in part 1 though, which I think does pretty well for itself from a dramatic POV, as far as slasher movies go. And Mathew McConaughey and Renee Zellwegger were in a Texas Chainsaw movie, while Leo Dicaprio was in a sequel to Critters. Most of Friday the 13th is too dated, poorly written, acted and directed to hold up for a current audience. Honestly if I hadn't seen I - IV at a very early age, I don't think I could get into it as an adult. I'm hoping for more from the reboot, personally. I heard that they're going to reboot the reboot , so we'll see what happens.
Maybe because in FVJ the acting went from bad to worse?
You bring up some good points but for me I would say F13 has just not aged well. I'd say Nightmare on Elm St and especially something like TCM just seem tighter, better acted and with some sort of budget. First time I saw TCM, for example, was in my late 30s and it is still a scary movie. Would any adult watching Friday the 13th Part II, say, be horrified by the events portrayed? I love Jason and I still really enjoy the endings to Parts III (fight with Jason and dream sequence) and Part IV, but overall the movies are just garbage. Especially anything that came after IV. A lot of it is pretty much unwatchable dreck. The reboot beats most of what came before in at least being watchable, much as I hate lines like "perfect nipple placement" or the scene with the hick and his mannequin.I don't know if I agree with this...

so you are one of those people lol.
please give me some examples of amazing acting from the franchise, maybe some clips on youtube.
or perhaps you could point me out to the big stars that worked in these films,
Not forgetting the fact that FVJ actually had a cast of hollywood actors (some with a lot of experience) and not just a bunch of actors that needed a break or were just starting out.
I mean seriously, who of the actors from the other movies were big or were in other big movies???
Yeah, true, I still like the first Halloween. F13 Part VI is OK but I never cared for zombie Jason and I didn't like the humour. At that point they're basically throwing in the towel and it's become a parody of itself. I liked the first 5ish minutes or so of Jason Goes to Hell. Was great seeing him lured into a trap and blown to bits, as surely would have to happen at some point with so many murders in the same spot over years and years. I did enjoy Jason X for the camp, since I'd given-up by then and the premise was so ridiculous.Halloween still holds up better as well. (at least the first two)
My favorite jason movie has always been part 6 because part 6 at least had an actual plot (it has 3 plots going on at once)
It wasn't just a group of college kids hanging out, drinking and getting picked up one by one. Part 6 actually had a story and characters had real motivations for their actions (at least the main characters)
you had the kids coming back to camp, the counselors being there for a job, Tommy Jarvis acting crazy and trying to take Jason down, The sheriff trying to deal with Tommy and his daughter, and then you have Jason on top of it all killng people
So to me part 6 is one of the few movies that has a story on top of Jason just taking down the cast.
(Same with Freddy Vs Jason having a plot, and for that matter, Jason X actually has a story as well even if it is the cheesiest one of them all )
You could say part 9 has a real plot too but to me part 9 doesn't count as a real Friday movie. to me it is almost like an alternate universe kind of thing. to me that's not even really Jason
