Planet of the Apes

Oh, forgot this one. It has at least 4 excellent films. The original and Matt Reeves trilogy. I haven't seen the older sequels to the original often enough or recently enough to rate them now. I did see the Tim Burton remake again last year and found it entertaining - awesome people-in-suits work - but the ending twist was bizarre. I assume it was banking on sequels to explain that one.

It would be a short and unusually-ordered list if we were strictly talking franchises, so I'll go with top ten IP in general.

Alien
Conan
Predator
Masters of the Universe
Jurassic Park
Judge Dredd
Lord of the Rings
Blade Runner
Planet of the Apes
Godzilla

Waiting until the new movie to add Dune to the top five. Feels wrong to put something here without at least one good film or TV run.

I always watch the old POTA films when they're on tv. I don't like the Matt Reeves trilogy. They're too pretentious for me, especially the 2 and 3. It's like, they're monkeys, let's have some fun and cheese. They're too serious and gloomy.

Oh I didn't know we could include television or any IP. In that case, my revised list.

James Bond
Rambo
Batman
Dragon Ball
John Wick
TMNT
ROCKY
MATRIX
Ghostbusters
X-Men
Super Mario
Mortal Kombat
Indiana Jones
Street Fighter
Toy Story
MCU

Ok So I am going to try and do some cartwheels to list my fav.. Some of my fav series have been ruined by some bad movies.. SO I will add series were I enjoy at least most of the films.. Example.. The Matrix could never be on here because as much as I love the first I pretty much find the next two unwatchable... JAWS... Would love to add that but when half the films are some of the worst the cinema has to offer... Well that's a no go for me.

Star Wars - I can even watch the bad ones and find some sort of enjoyment.
LOTR / The Hobbit - Just like SW I can even enjoy the less then stellar ones
ALIEN - I like pretty much everything except ALIEN: Resurrection
Indiana Jones - Love the first two. Can tolerate the 3rd... Did they make a 4th one?
The Terminator - I hate the last two but find much enjoyment with the first 4
John Wick
James Bond - Some stinkers for sure but I even enjoy most of them :lol
MCU
Start Trek - Original cast
Friday the 13th :) - Dumb fun

Godzilla films... Even though I basically only watch the monster scenes anymore :lol

If I were going on franchises where (IMO) the ratio of good to bad weighs more heavily to the former then this would be my best franchises list

Blade Runner
MCU
Lethal Weapon
Back to the Future
Rocky/Creed
Indiana Jones
Raimi Spiderman (as it is separate from the MCU*)

Yet clearly these aren't the franchises I talk most about or watch as often as others or collect toys from apart from a small collection of Hot Toys MCU and a Tobey Red/Blue Spiderman.

*Reminds me - I forgot the Fox X-men franchise from my long list on page one. Hey, it had some crap in there but also a few really good standout movies.

More good than bad films in a franchise...?

I think LOTR would win.

If its just for trilogies... I still think LOTR would win.

I keep forgetting LOTR. I think it's because I haven't watched them in such a long time.

Toy Story? Wwwelllll. I'm sure they're all good, I just think full CG movies are more like theme park rides than cinema :monkey3

I would include Blade Runner if it was more then 2 films... I don?t really think of them as an official franchise.

I would include Lethal Weapon also.

I thought about this, which is why I didn't respond sooner. And honestly, there aren't enough Movie & TV Franchises out there that I genuinely like. Sure, if you put me on the spot and made me answer, I'd say that yeah, I enjoy Indiana Jones , Blade Runner, Star Wars, and so on and so forth. But do I like them in general? Eh, I suppose. I've watched all of them once, some films maybe twice. I'd buy a (good) HT Indy and Deckard. But I don't think about Terminator or Matrix or Predator or whatever else. I've seen the movies and that's more or less it. So If I'm making a list, it's going to include Franchises in general (movies, game, etc). And even then, I think that to be a Franchise, you need to be Multimedia. Anyhow, might as well get on with it*:

*The ranking's not definitive or anything, it changes all the time depending on the mood. But I tried to more or less give an idea of what I like.

1. Mass Effect:

I will admit that Andromeda soured me on the IP a bit. Hell, I never played it, and I was pretty hyped when it was revealed. Nevertheless, ME remains one of my favourite franchises. As for the why, well, first things first I love the setting. Stuff like Farscape, Babylon-5 and the like never did anything for me. And Star Trek, no matter how many times I've tried it, was just too vast and of little interest to me to invest so much time. I liked Sci-Fi in VGs, Comics and Books. When the first Mass Effect rolled around and it was a proper Sci-Fi RPG with interesting worldbuilding I was over the moon. But eventually it got turned into an Action RPG and then just a TPS Action Game. Yeah, 3 ruined things too, but after all these years, I look back on the property fondly. It's got this sleek, elegant look that's more reminiscent of Asimov, Heinlein and such than "people in green paint" Sci-Fi. It can also be argued that Bioware "borrowed" from Syd Mead quite a bit... Anyhow, to wrap this up, I just like the property. It hits a lot of my buttons regarding Sci-Fi. I've read the Comics, bought the Merch, replayed the Trilogy, even bought the IOS games. I love the setting, and if they ever get things back on track I'll be eager to return.

2. Green Lantern:

I'll come clean and say that I jumped on when Johns came on board. I'd read snippets here and there, but it was only when he made his additions that I truly fell in love with the Franchise. A lot of older GL fans will disagree, but the Emotional Spectrum, the Colour Corps, they all added more to the Mythos and made it one of my favourite settings. As for why I like it, let's get the obvious out of the way. A cool gimmick, interesting characters, Intergalactic Wars, Space Battles, all of that great Sci-Fantasy stuff. But what made me stay was that the core concept was pretty different to other Capestuff. It wasn't about wackos letting genocidal maniacs off the hook and having soap opera-ish problems, while you wonder why the 10 supergeniuses in NY alone haven't "cured X, Y, Z" yet or how the "Mutant Allegory" is supposed to work when those Muties can blow up schools with their cum. It was a book about Space Soldiers/Cops/Knights and the core concept was about harnessing your inner Will. As a kid, I found it rather refreshing, and I suppose it's stuck with me, after all these years.

3. Metal Gear:

This is a pretty complicated matter, what with the Konami meddling, how V turned ot, Kojima's antics and whatnot. But we have to admit that the Solid Series changed gaming, and under it all, MGS remains its own thing. In a sea of interchangeable, mass-produced products, something that has its own voice, even if it has numerous flaws, is admirable in my book. Yes, now all the philosophies seem 2deep4u, but at the time, especially in a videogame, they were pretty unique. What other game managed to do all the conspiracy stuff back in the 2000s, aside from the first Deus Ex? I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter how things ended, as a whole, I can't help but look back warmly at the whole thing. The gaming, the "character", the homages to all those Hollywood movies seen through a Westernized Anime style, it all made it rather distinct. And I'll always hold the belif that had V been finished properly, it could've really been something.

4. Warhammer 40.000:

I got into it in my tweens (naturally) and loved it during my Edgy/Anti-Hero high. I started off with Chaos Space Marines, then moved on to proper Space Marines and Orks. But there was nobody to play with, the hobby was too time consuming so I largely left it all behind. I tried to keep up with the Lore and get into it, but it became a chore considering how vast the whole thing is, and me having other forms of escapism at the time. The last few years I've gradually started getting back into it though, and I'm throughly enjoying it. Yeah, it's a bit of an acquired taste, since a lot of it is juvenile and 3edgy5u, but the whole grimdark aspect is part of the appeal. So yeah, I'm enjoy it, if I'm in the right mood and it remains one of my favourite fictional settings. At the end of the day, it's Space Roman/Byzantine/Knight MAUREENS being BROTHERS in a BROTHERHOOD and PURGING Xeno ****ing ****s while being led by Immortal Space Conan and fighting against Xenomorphs, Space Elves and Demons. It's appealing, what can I say?

5. Star Wars:

I'm putting this in the middle because while what I like from Star Wars I like a whole lot, there are lots of things that leave me apathetic towards them. I have no great love for the movies. I find the Eras of all Three Trilogies rather uninteresting (though to varying degrees). I never really cared for the Jedi. For me, it was always about the Sith, the Empire, the EU and my preferred Era was The Old Republic (yeah, yeah, KotOR influenced me). I like random stuff too, like Republic Commando, some of the EU Clone stories, GendyWars and whatever else, but I'm mostly drawn to the aspects featuring the villains. I read the Post-RotJ Comics simply for Thrawn, not Luke. My favourites were the Crimson Empire Minis. Hell, I wasted about 2 weeks of non-stop playing when TOR Launched. My most cherished Lego Set was the Rogue Shadow. And I've played The Force Unleashed numerous times in PSP, PS2 & PS3. So you get where I'm coming from. With all that said, I can't coutn it higher if I have little interesting in the protagonists of the stories.

6. 2000AD:

It's kinda cheating, but it's an anthology book, and every single Sub-IP has been published there, so... I'm counting it. I've read Heavy Metal, Epic Illustrated and various other anthology books, but this will forever remain my favourite. There are Strips I like more than others, sure, but it's produced so many classics I love in general, that it'd be disingenuous of me not to mention it. Dredd, Nikolai Dante (which I adore), Nemesis The Warlock, and lesser known stuff like The Red Seas and Strontium Dog. And many, many more. Most of them haven't made the jump to other forms of Media, but I still hold them pretty high up my Comic Book Rankings.

7. Conan:

Come on, what boy doesn't love Conan? He's a musclebound Barbarian who goes from Nobody to King, while slaying his way through Armies, Dragons, Wizards and bedding every beautiful wench. I reckon that whoever discovers the property as a young lad, gets into athleticism (even if it doesn't last in most people's cases). I actually got into it through the Marvel Comics, and didn't see the Arnold versions until years and years later. So to me, Book/Comic Conan is Conan (which is why I'm not buying the KP one and waiting for a proper 1/6th Conan...). Anyhow, there's not much more to say. REH created one of the best, if not the best, Sword & Sorcery settings, and I'll always have a soft spot for it and the main character. Hell, I even went to watch the Momoa version in the theaters, which should tell you all you need to know...

8. Tron:

I've always loved the sleek and elegant design of this. Yeah, mostly because of Legacy, which is a movie that I can rewatch over and over. But, I still have an attachment to the IP no matter if it's Pre or Post Legacy. It's a shame that Disney never did anything with it, but maybe it's for the better, considering how they butchered Star Wars. Anyhow, it's unique, it's comfy, and it has a timeless quality to it, so I'll always hold it close to my heart. Heck, I've been debating on going back and getting the Hot Toys figures too, money be damned.

9. MignolaVerse:

I need to be in a certain mood to properly enjoy it, but I'll always be a fan of this little universe. Aside from Mignola's art, I find it unique in that in contrast with other supernatural/horror properties, it's first and foremost a Gothic Tale that takes its inspiration not from general Pop Culture concepts abotu Christianity and the general paranormal, but from Myths and Folklore, with an added Lovecraftian element. Yes, not every aspect of it is as polished, but at the end of the day, it's a small, creator-driven universe that has its very own distinctive mark which will always be there. And for me, that makes it stand out in a sea of generalized products, and I'll always enjoy it when I'm in the right place of mind.

10. Halo:

I'm putting this here out of sheer nostalgia. The Launch of Combat Evolved back in 2001 is one of my most vivid memories. Then Halo 2, alongside Quake, Unreal Tournament, STALKER and the like were my early PC gaming years. And I'll always remember the hype for 3 and Reach. Plus the rambling of Spielberg and Blomkamp making a movie, not to mention the "leaked trailer" that did the rounds for a while, and it ended up just being extra footage from those live action 3 spots. Oh, BTW, the "Believe" Spot with the Diorama was peak advertising. But, Post ODST & Reah, after 343 got the reigns, I think the series lost its "soul". So I've generally given up on this. It remains here as a reminder of a past time and a better version of the IP. Now, if someone could make a decent 1/6th Chief figure...

I also made a Collage because... I like Lists, Charts, Collages, that sort of thing.

Now, all of those things said, I find it pretty hard to care about Franchises as a whole, these days. Even the stuff I listed and talked about "nostalgia" and all that, I fall in and out of "love" with from week to week. If I have any affinity for half of them a decade from now, I'll consider it a "win" in their favour... Honestly, I like writing, even if it's nonsense, so I always take the opportunity when I have time. Currently, I find it easier to care about say, a character from them or an installment or story. I can name Movies, Books, TV Shows and so on and so forth, that I love, but my days of caring so much about Multimedia Franchises and the such are over. If you asked me, I'd tell you that I love, say, Mad Men, more than the vast majority of things on that list. I'd buy a 1/6th Don Draper instantly whereas I still haven't POed a Hellboy, for example. You get where I'm going with this. And I doubt it's just me.
