When it comes to the creatures I think the original is the best (just look at my sig) though I really like the runner from Alien3.

Of the movies Alien is my favorite.

It's just hard to decide which movie is my favorite. Alien is the best, movie-wise. Aliens was a great action flick, and Alien 3 had a very unique vibe that the others didn't have. They're so different that it's almost like comparing apples to oranges.

The movies all seem to belong to different genres as well, while they are all sci-fi Alien is a horror movie, Aliens is an action flick, Alien3 is also a horror movie but it's a different kind than Alien and Alien: Resurrection is... hard to pin down. It feels like with Resurrection they tried to make a Sci-Fi/horror/action/conspiracy movie.

I think Aliens was the most..well made movie. Alien 3 was always my favorite, but I watched A:R a week and half ago and enjoyed it more than I ever have.. IMO, they're all perfect.

Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 all have an extremely unique and special feeling, and A:R combines them all into one.

Even with the setting 200 years ahead. Thats not the problem, the problem is it all seems so scripted, the characters such blatant 'types' and the action so self-consciously 'cool'.

I know how Lar'ja is with the whole predator thread and I will not dare say that Alien R is a bad movie....but I remember being very disapointed when I saw it. Again it was like 10 years ago, or whenever it was released so I think a rewatch is in order.

You should definitely watch Resurrection again. When I first saw it I could not stand it but having seen it a few more times especially the current Anthology release I've learned to at least appreciate it.

I was able to 'come around' to not just liking Alien 3 but thinking of it as a proper Alien film and very much canon in my personal view. I don't think I'll ever reach that with Alien Resurrection though. Last time I tried to watch it I turned it off half way through.

Resurrection, I don't even consider canon. It doesn't feel like its the same universe as the others.

I do consider Resurrection canon, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. A1, A2, and A3 I love pretty much equally, but A4 loses points purely because it was so unecessary. Not quite on the same level as the others. Even though it was fun and well-done, it felt tacked on to the original trilogy.

As far as genres go, I always thought of the movies like this:

Alien = horror
Aliens = action
Alien 3 = thriller/horror
Alien Resurrection = action/adventure

Well said friend.

By the way, love your reviews on youtube. You are one of the best with that IMO

I like Resurrection - the scene where Johner shoots the spider always brings a smile to my face. And the part where Gediman kisses the alien through the glass - sooooooo creepy! Ewwwwww!

N00bs - they are all great. ^_^

Somehow I enjoyed Resurrection more than 3. It just seemed like a better continuation to the whole bug story than 3. It DIDN'T have any major characters other than Ripley to kill off... cough newt cough cough hicks cough...

And after the madness that was Aliens, I just couldn't watch a sequel that just had ONE alien.

Agreed! As gut wrenching as it was to see two of my favorite characters die, and kind of negating the entire impetus of the second film, 3 is so much stronger because of that loss.

And I did cry a bit when Ripley made the ultimate sacrifice. Because these were all characters I had grown to love and care about. Effective story telling by Scott, Cameron, and Fincher.

Saw 3 three times the day it came out and even skipped school to do so!

^ Yeah, Alien 3 was awesome. The most "Powerful" of all the Alien films IMO. The music was absolutely amazing.
My favorite scene is where they're dropping Newt and Hicks' bodies into the led/lava as the Dogburster is, well, bursting.. "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust".. :clap
