Decent but didn't really hold up IMO. Seven Samurai it ain't.

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) - 7/10

Not a top shelf Miyazaki classic but it was still a cute flick for kids.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016) - 4.9/10

Ugh. Saw this at the $2 theater today with my kids. They enjoyed it and laughed a few times but it didn't really engage me at all.

This must be the SE version of the movie.

It was. I was watching it on tv. TNT or TBS got the rights to the whole franchise, so I'm watching them. I even saw the prequels...but I won't bother to give them a score.

All the changes really hurt the film, but honestly, the score wouldn't change that much if it was the original, which would look dated. The pace of the film is a bit slow too, but it's pretty good and I see why it was such a big deal in the 70's. Lucas really managed to created the feel of a different world, and that's pretty admirable.

I'm guessing that that's probably a pretty standard score for millennials who've grown up with the SE's and never even seen the original versions. Which isn't their fault of course but rather the filmmaker himself.

Westworld: 6/10

May have been a bit more interesting and novel when first released, but watching it now it seems pretty quaint and predictable. I expected more on how and why the robots revolted, given Crichton's heavy involvement. Ex Machina handled that aspect much more effectively.

I agree with Prince's ANH score, perhaps I would give it an 8 but it does have some bad dialogue and acting moments that I overlook because of nostalgia.

CLOWN. A very cool must SEE Horror. Peter Stormare is most well known actor in this one other then him not too many i ever seen but all do a Amazing job give this one a Strong 8. If a horror fan highly recomend it. Scarring Good.

Absolutely! It depends on which version you've seen first and I would also imagine that 'when' you watch it will impact your thoughts on the movie. For example, for someone that has never seen the movie, to watch the original unmolested version today, would probably not grade it as high as someone viewing it in '77.

I've never seen the SE complete, not once, I grew up with the regular ones on VHS, when the SE popped up I had a visceral reaction against them and just stopped watching, even as a kid.

Regardless, original ANH has he same cringy dialogue and bad acting moments so I don't think it's that.

The original never grabbed me growing up. I think the only parts of the movie I ever liked were the cantina and when they were on the Death Star.

2004 SE was my first experience with SWOT.
Most of the changes were bad but not all of them.

I'd give the original 8,5/10 simply because too much of the important stuff was left behind.
And yeah, I like the 1981 radio drama more than the actual film.

The Nice Guys: 7.5/10
Grown-up kind of fun. Great dialogue, great characters, decent story (the death of a porn star), fun setting (1977 LA). I thought Gosling was fantastic. He handled the humor perfectly. I thought most of the elements individually were great, except that I just felt something just didn’t push it far enough to make the movie as a whole truly great. I wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel, or seeing this as a series.

Ant Man: 8/10
2nd viewing. Fun all around. Luis’s stories were the highlight. Good story. A very solid entry to the Marvel movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy: 7.5/10
2nd viewing. I thought it was good for the most part, but I can’t help but feel that Chris Pratt just can’t pull his weight against everyone else. Sure he’s funny, but the role need him to have some depth and I just didn’t think Pratt delivered. The character as written has a lot of depth (death of his mom, kidnapped, etc.), but I just didn’t get all that from his performance. I also thought the actor playing Ronin was a bit weak too. It felt like he was “acting” angry and menacing. Everyone else was spot on, especially Bradley Cooper as Rocket. Fantastic voice work. And I thought James Gunn did a great job directing. I think he would have made a great SW movie, which GOTG practically is. Maybe he’ll get to do one of the anthology films.
