Eh... I felt like this after my first viewing severall years ago.
Yes, it was was first ever EFNY watch. :lol

After re-watchin' it this year... I thought everything perfect.

It's definitely a well made film and it was Russell's best character. But after each viewing, I see it as the weakest of the Russell/Carpenter trilogy. I think that's due to Carpenter evolving and refining his techniques. Undoubtedly, The Thing was their best collaboration and their best film respectively. I know this might surprise people but I prefer The Thing over EFNY. It's just that I'm drawn to Plissken more than the film itself.

I see EFNY as a silly thriller, it's too 80's to take it seriously.
And as a silly 80's thriller it's pretty ****in' impressive. :lol

The Thing and The Fly are some of the movies I would call, "perfect" in every way.

Okay, maybe except that helicopter turned space craft thingy, that was dumb. :lol

The Holy Spirit. :lol

:lecture

I can't see two films in that genre that are anymore perfect. Although I tend to pick the Fly over Thing, since I love how Cronenberg made the transformation a slow and agonizing process and wanted Goldblum to be very articulate about what was happening to him to the very end.

But I can't watch it as much as I would The Thing since it becomes too depressing and disturbing.

The Thing is great in regards to obviously the SFX, the craftsmanship of how Carpenter built the story. There's still ongoing debates as to who got infected when and how and if Childs was infected at the end (which he was)

You don't think he was? :lol

He wanted to leave Mac outside than let him in. He left his post by the door (which he wouldn't do) and went outside and only shows up at the end? C'mon.

There's also a very specific camera pan during the one scene that shows the doorway to the generator room in the basement, which is how Blair got to him.

Even Carpenter said in a tweet not long ago that one of them was infected but didn't state who. At face value, there wasn't any time for Mac to get infected.

I like when things are open to interpritation.
That's the beauty of this kind of films.

Much of the film is like that. I don't like that Carpenter said that, but whatever. I always felt he was anyway.

There's some intense fans on Youtube that analyze the set design frame by frame to draw conclusions on the most minute parts of the plot :lol

Yeah, I hate it when people do this.

Imagine McR killin' Childs only to find out that he wasn't infected...
He kills him and starts to transform...
That'd be my post credit scene for the film. :lol
