Went and saw the remastered version at Imax last night and wow it looks amazing. Fincher did an amazing job and this is probably the best example of modern digital tinkering I have seen because it still looks exactly like I remember this film should look since I first saw it at the cinema … gulp … 30 years ago.

I know this film reasonably well and couldn’t see anything new added (apparently a door has been added in one shot lol). My friend knows this film better than me and loved it as well, he was explaining to me how the DP was doing crazy things with the negative to get the image he wanted, and he could only pick up one shot, the establishing shot of Tracy and Somerset in the diner that looked digitally altered. And according to interviews with Fincher he was correct, they changed that shot because originally a camera pan was introduced that Fincher didn’t want.

A perfect film. Incredibly literature smart script, great performances, truly beautifully dank looking like an old school noir film, amazing score and sound work and an ending that despite all the memes etc still has the power to leave you speechless.

Masterpiece.
