During ComicCon I asked about this to a SS rep, and he said it was the material shrink more than expected during production...

That may be part of the overall, but the shape to the flared portion from a profile view isn't the same as the SDCC 2008 Prototype helmet either. I'm not an expert on plastic shrinking, but I would imagine it would happen proportionally throughout the piece and not just a spot here and a spot there.

Regardless of how the ANH figure helmet turned out, I'm confident it'll be corrected on future Vaders, which makes me thankful they started with ANH, my least favorite, so ROTJ and ESB can benefit from what they learn.
