In what freaking awards show? MTV awards?

The Golden Joystick Awards ... though I'm not sure if they're considered prestigious within the industry. I'd imagine not.

Though Fortnite is a cultural phenomenon, it would be kinda weird for it NOT to be Game of the Year. It's kinda like when Taylor Swift or Beyonce wins Record of the Year. It's not a measure of 'best', but 'popular'.

Anyone else kind of bored? I'm 44% story and honestly I just don't find the gameplay mechanics to be very fun at all. It all feels so clunky. I'm tempted to just YouTube the story.

After being a tin-foiled hat wearing Chiliad Mystery nut for the last few years, I'm loving being fresh into an abundance of mysteries as things are still being discovered. Tiny Church in the swamp, Chiloneon Hobbit House, the Witches Cauldron (which I still have no idea what drinking from it did to me).

Gonna hate it in 5 years when we still haven't figured out the Mt Shann Mystery, but meh.

You're not alone, in general I don't think the gameplay is very well constructed. At times it feels like they were inspired by developers like Naughty Dog but they just aren't that good at designing gameplay. A lot of things don't seem to have been evaluated if they are fun or not.

Gameplay is fine! I beat the whole story and still having fun riding around causing trouble

I'm about 30% in, and find that I'm forcing myself to sit down and play it. Granted, a large portion of that is that my lifestyle has changed dramatically since I played RDR. I now have many more grown-up things to take care of, and I can't just sit down to play a game for two or three hours at a time. Though this 4-day weekend has been a boon.

But I would agree that it doesn't seem fun.

There are too many mechanics. The options to greet, antagonize, defuse, rob anyone ... I just feel like it's overdone.

Having so many things to upgrade at the camp. Pearson asked me for leather working tools so he can make more stuff. So I spent $180 to get him the tools, (exhausting the camp's funds, and dipping into my own stash) but I still can't craft anything, because I need 'perfect' hides. How do I get 'perfect' hides? I have no idea.

My understanding of it thus far is that if you use a gun to shoot an animal it creates a 'poor' hide. And you need improved arrows to make a clean hole in the animal for a 'perfect' hide. But I don't know how to make improved arrows. What the game needs is some hunting expert that you can consult who will take you hunting and show you how to do the things you need for upgrades.

After coming from spider-man, RDR2 certainly does seem clunky, but I’ve spent enough time with it now to realize that I just needed to SLOW DOWN. This game almost demands that you drink it in, and be thoughtful and methodical with every action you make, no matter how seemingly mundane. I don’t have a lot of time to play, so I’m used to rushing through a lot of my games, sadly, but RDR2 just doesn’t allow that. It’s a gaming experience unlike any I’ve ever had, but I’m starting to “get it” and let it immerse me.

Not quite. You can use both guns and arrows. You just have to match the appropriate ammo or arrow type to the animal size. If you scan the animal it should give you the info you need for that particular animal. You don't always need a head shot (again that depends on how you are killing that animal) but generally headshots are the safest, and I haven't faced an animal yet that didn't go down without a single headshot if you've used the correct weapon and correct ammunition.. (except for Legendary animals, but their pelts are always perfect because they are a one time affair)

Generally speaking though, the very smallest animals require a small game arrow, and as they get bigger you'll find varmint rifle, then standard arrow and repeater and up to rifles and improved arrows. The very largest animals I'd advise the likes of the Rolling Block sniper rifle..

Improved animals and Poison Arrows are generally larger animals. You'll acquire recipes for different ammo and arrow types as the game progresses, and will be able to buy them from Gunshops as you progress. Crafting them requires using the necessary ingrediants at a campfire..

The first few hours although I'll be honest when it's all particularly confusing the safest option with all the deer and pronghorn is usually a normal arrow to the head.

Oh, and obviously, you need to target a Perfect animal to begin with. Doesn't matter how you kill a Good or Poor animal, you wont get a Perfect Pelt.

Thanks for the recap, appreciate it.

I did just notice that bit about scanning them will tell you what ammo to use. Most the of animals I've found thus far call for a small game arrow.

So I need to shoot more birds to find the feathers to craft the right arrows? Can I just buy the supplies from the shops?

Yup... there's a spot just down from the first camp (Act 2) down at the river where it is really easy to farm flight feathers. Lock on dead-eye with a repeater and shoot about 4 or 5 birds nesting in a clump on the banks of the river. You should be able to buy supplies at stores too.

Small game arrows are generally animals like squirrels. Any small animal the size of a rabbit up you should be able to use the varmint rifle which is free to buy from a store if you have one of the Special Editions. Otherwise I think it unlocks at some point in Act 2.

Just my thoughts on the late game.

I seriously hope they plan to patch in Mexico and sell us the original games story as DLC. Having both games in one package would be amazing and if they don't I can't really understand why the original games map is present at all. It's almost completely lifeless.

I hope so too but it might just be there for multiplayer, ive already seen gameplay there from the beta yesterday with a character from the first game.

Does anybody else in the camp hunt for food, or bring back supplies?

It dawned on me last night, that there's like 10 other men in the camp. Seems like someone else should be joining in on the contributions apart from just Arthur.

I did because i got in trouble from other people if i went too long without bringing food or money in, it is a pain in the *** though

Yeah, Susan had a crack at me for not contributing enough to the camp funds, after I dropped $300 or so on a ******* boat. Should've shot her then and there...

I hunt for the camp all the time, so many animals everywhere that I rarely return to camp without something for the chuckwagon, as far as donations go I drop the occasional watch, belt buckle or trinket into the ol' donations box but never actual cash.
