Sounds like a great idea, but I can see it getting screwed up really fast. Especially when you have items trading hands repeatedly via ebay.

Agreed, but it'll just have to be something that SS will need to educate the consumer with. If you purchase/obtain a statue, insist on the "ownership papers". You wouldn't buy a car without the pinks right? Why can't we make it with statues too! :rock

I made this suggestion a little while back. Totally agree with you. Doesnt hurt anybody and would be an easy sytem for Sideshow to implement. Like pink slips of a car...you sell it to somebody, they get registered as the new owner. That way you always know the current owner of an authentic peice.

Some people would view that as an invasion of privacy. However, a voluntary registry would be acceptable.

THere are clearly things to work out, but account visibility would clearly have to not be visible to everybody. ie. if you want to prove you own a piece, you'd give the potential buyer a private link that shows that you are "registered" for it.

Yes, that is it.

I wonder what the U.S Treasury Dept would think of SS permanently gluing and laminating $1 bills on the bottom of all their statues (bills have individual serial numbers, and excellent anti-counterfeiting measures) to prevent fakes? Not likely to happen. What about holograms on the bottom?

Don't get what that comment has to do with what I said...

i had to read through all the pages. but that hulk with sculpted pants can't be real because i was looking at my hulk and no where on him does the light shine off of him. so i don't believe that is a real hulk but a recast...

What about Certificates of Authenticity? This is a method that's used worldwide both with collectibles and just about every other high-value piece. It's quick, easy and can easily be passed from one owner to the next.

Honestly, whatever it is, SS needs to do SOMETHING to help protect its customers....it's getting way out of hand.

I think SS is doing everything they can. Dont forget these are $300 statues not $25,000 vehicles that have to be registered in case of injuring someone or property etc.

About the holograms and COAs, those would be a nice touch but nothing more than a false sense of security. Holograms are replicated easily as well as COA which is just a piece of paper or cardboard with printing on it. These can be replicated for pennies in asia. Just go to a local flea market and see all the knock off Nike, Addidas, and other sports products that have the same embroidered symbols and even the tags with holograms etc. Or better yet, go check on ebay, theyre a dime a dozen.

The best thing you, me, (we), can do is to be EDUCATED buyers and not support this kind of activity and production of licensed product.

Curious what you mean by this... their newsletters with the warnings? Be nice to be a tad more proactive on this front.

100% agreed on this.

It's OUR responsibility as consumers to be informed. Why does SS need to take time out of their busy schedule to hold our hands and tell us what to buy and what not to buy? They supply us with a product in their name and straight from their website. if you are going to buy on the secondary market it is up to YOU to buy the right thing. If you bought straight through SS you wouldnt have anything to worry about would you?
