Tell me people wouldn't much rather have Greedo, Hammerhead, Tusken Raiders, Jawas, other creatures, or even some heroes in Hoth gear over yawners like Endor Rebels, Praji, Antilles, Piett, and on and on...

I'll agree with that... but at the same time I don't have the fear that this line is going to dry up anytime soon. Sure it might, but I think if it does it would be more a function of the economy than anything else.

Although I can tell ya, I may get tired of the armored figures real fast if we start getting the flavor of the month Clones for the next year :lol

That's my concern as well. Yes the odd clone here and there but keep announcing BOTH main characters and the fringe characters...

Right now I'm not sure what I'll buy from SW. Yoda for sure but right now SW wise I only have Vader left on order.

I don't know, I think Army building figures is the way for SS to go right now, especially if times are to only get tougher, that way they'd sell more.

I'm an avid OT only collector, so I'd like to see more of those figures.
Although not army building fodder I still hope these get done sometime soon.

Tarkin
Tuskin Raider
Death Squad Commander (Kenner 1977) version

I believe that the "army building" days are long gone. If the Stormies were $55.00, I could see many buying at least "3" of them and most probably more, little by little, if needed. But at $90.00, "1" is pretty much going to be it for most. I've got 3 on pre-order but will most probably be cutting down to 1 (exclusive), now that the SandTrooper is on pre-order as well.

Tarkin and Tuskin are must-haves. Not sure but did you mean Death "Star" commander? I'm not familiar with Death "Squad" Commander, though.

I've been selective in my collectibles purchasing for quite some time now, but with he increasing prices of 1:6 figures, I've become even more so over the past couple of years. As much as I love Star Wars, I only have the cash and space to go for the really iconic and core stuff. Captain Antilles, Admiral Piett, Endor soldiers; as much as I like them they're a huge pass.

I know the ideology can be that to keep interest in the line, core characters must be drawn out, but it can only be done for so long before the customer base loses interest or faith. It's time for Chewbacca, it's time for a droid. At this point the longer they are put off, the more people will believe we'll never see them.

Considering the ease with which certain iconic alien pieces could be made it is somewhat surprising to see "generic" imperials and rebels continually released. There's only so much army building to do with 1:6 scale figures before most will have to stop. There's a Hobbit body waiting to be turned into a Jawa and I can't think of many who would pass up a well done Tusken Raider. Are either of them really all that more difficult than Piett or Antilles?

SS could still do a Qui-Gonn Jinn PF too which I would be all over, or a Mace Windu PF, and there's always remakes of characters too, like a Jedi Luke PF or Episode 3 Obi-Wan PF. :D But I think you guys were talking about 1/6 which I don't really collect. :lol

As far as just getting core characters though, that's the philosophy I've been trying to live by, even before the economy went down the toilet, for all lines, not just SW. That's one of the reasons I cancelled the Tusken Raider PF, Moria Orc PF, and possibly the Berserker PF too. I'm trying to save what little space I have left for main characters if I can, and now the economy makes it all the more important cause of finances.

Is this the thread where I ask Sideshow to make a Willrow Hood figure?:rotfl

I cut the Stormtrooper out too. In this economy I'm going to have to be content with the Hasbro VOTCs.

SS better get their ***** moving and get out some core characters that everyone wants fast before the economy gets really bad this year. Otherwise it's all gonna be over i'm afraid soon than later.

(The excitement from 2005-2006 is over! And now that the economy sucks = Bad news for SW 1/6)

IMO

There's a polarity that I see starting for myself that I wonder if others are sharing.

A)I'd be willing to pay $50-$60 any time for almost any SW character I can think of.

B)I'm willing to pay $100+ for really interesting product like the Indy environment sets and Han Carbonite. I think Chewie and the droids would fit here.

But in between those poles I'm not willing to spend $70-$90 for "just another figure" and thus stuff like the Tantive figures, AOTC Obi-Wan, Ki Adi, Piett and Stormtroopers I've passed or canceled.

that sums up alot of my thinking along with the better offerings from other companies. i was really stoked about the stormtrooper figure but when the sandtrooper was announced i canceled the stormie. i guess i am being really choosy when it comes to representations of star wars characters that i have.

Count me in as well.

Piett, Rebel Trooper and Antilles would have become purchases for me if they had been $55. At $70, I just can't justify them. I would rather put that $140 from Piett and Antilles into the new Predator from HT, for example.

I agree. I can't justify those prices on those figures and to be honest I can't see the necessary price increase. Piett, Antilles and RFT are all no more extensive than Bespin Han and yet they are $15-$20 more. The Buck has paid for itself over and over, so the expense is in a headsculpt and costume which SSC produced effectively for $45-$45 for years.
If they were cheaper I would be either completist or at least very close to it.
The same thing kept me from getting too involved in the LOTR line.

I probably will go and get a SS one but for now the Medicom stormie will have to do. I just have other things that need to be more of a priority and things I hope can become more of a priority.

Death Squad Commander was later turned into Star Destroyer Commander. One of the few original SW figures that had no major variations over the years. The original release by Kenner stamped 1977 released 1978 was the Death Squad Commander. I used to have twelve of these guys. :gun
I think the "Death Squad" was later changed because it gave too gruesome a title for something SW related. Anyway, I think it would be cool if SS put the original spin on some of the original characters released back in 1977/78 from the days of my youth. But seeing that his name was changed and is no longer known as such, and seeing that Lucas has such a tight grip on his baby I doubt such a thing could happen. Gone are the days of the old republic. Even though some of us still remember. :whip
