Its hard to recommend America as a tourist destination. I love the US and will probably never live anywhere else, but just can't think of many places to say, "must see". Everything toursity is just so overcrowded and cliche.

If you like the outdoors and don't mind it being cold in December, my fine state of Colorado is as good as it gets for nature. There might be decent skiing in December, though it is a bit early in the season. But the mountains and the parks will be beautiful that time of year, just a bit nippy.

If I really had to pick a reasonable tourist trip in December, here what I'd do. And you can also do this in the reverse order.

Fly into Chicago stay for 2-3 days
drive to Denver stay 2-3 days
drive to Las Vegas. stay 2 days
drive to L.A. stay 2-3 days
drive to San Franscisco stay 2-3 days
Fly home.

Add 1 additional day between each desitnation for driving.

Weather - Florida.
Women - Florida.
Beaches - Florida.
Friendliness - Florida.
Parks - Florida.

LA: isn't as interesting as it seems. Great weather....but the smog will kill ya if ur not from there.
But California does have great outdoorsy places u can visit.

Portland, Oregon has a great art scene.

Texas is big....but I would recomend Austin.

NYC is my home town! It's not relaxing at all...but it sure is interesting!!! I say u must go there at least once in ur life time!

Where u coming from Tnaig?

I'd go anywhere but NYC, but that's if you plan to go to lots of diffrent states if your looking for just 1 stop NYC is the place.

it's interesting… i think a lot of people's views reflect more of themselves than the actual destination. it is a big, wide open country that has culture and potential around every corner… but it is what one makes it.

This is probably the crux of the problem with this thread. I dislike NYC, but I can see the interest, I just think there's MUCH better ways to spend a foreign trip. It's hard to get a lot of information from this many opinions.

December is a rough time to get to really nice places like Yellowstone, so CA probably does offer the best balance as far as city and nature goes. Although I think more northern CA gets pretty cold (this is a guess).

If it were up to me, I'd just go to Disney World or Land every trip, because I'm a loser. But the one US city I'd really like to go back to is San Antonio.

To be honest, its the diversity of the country that is drawing me to the states and i think that's what everyone's posts reflect.

We love nature but one of the draws for me is to see the states in reality. We get so much of the popular US culture through TV and the movies that I'm quite interested to see how much is real and how much is idealized.

I'm coming over from Singapore. Its sunny all year round here, well except that we have showers every now and then and humidity is in the 90s all the time.

The temperature ranges from 28 degrees C to 37 degrees C :wave

Yeah...its best to avoid the east coast of the US in the winter time.

Florida gets quite cold....but not as bad as the more northern states.

If u wanna experience things from teh movies....well..I really do recommend NYC....and if u like nature stuff...u can always go up to Niagra Falls.....but remember....its gets REAL cold up there!

You should visit Delaware

The US is vast in landscapes as well as regional culture, etc. Just need to decide what you want to experience.....landscape, culture, beaches, city life, etc.

Forget the US,Japan or NZ. Come to Australia
