Man, you're a pretentious prick. Just flat out, no rebuttal to that needed. It's 100% undeniable. I actually responded to other parts of your post, but just deleted it all because you're not worth the time. What a ridiculous, condescending statement from someone who's basically talking out of their arse.

Ok, this will be my last post on the subject. Promise.
And first off, I apologize for sounding like a condescending prick. I realize my posts often sound pedantic, but I assume I am talking to a wide variety of people- from practicing artists (who will get the gist of my stumbling around for the right phrase) to simply enthusiastic admirers/consumers whose own areas of expertise probably fall far outside the visual arts. I'm groping for simplicity and a way to communicate to a broad swath of skill/knowledge levels and often coming up short.

The last post I thought I was clear, but maybe I wasn't. Let me stress that I like/love this piece. Any reservations I personally have about the base are in the realm of nit-picking, not wholesale rejection. I, personally, can't wait to order the piece AS IS, and will more than happily display it. But after each post I've made, someone, or multiple people, invariably respond with something to the effect of "If you don't like it don't buy it" or " She's a brutal warrior, what do you expect- something kid friendly?"
All of which is really missing the point I'm trying to make. But three or four failed attempts is clearly enough. I won't try making it again.

As far as sculpting my own "better" solution- No, I won't be doing that. While I do think the snake would likely look fine with a simpler, smother (more typically ARH-like) texture on his outer skin, the amount of effort involved vs the amount of improvement I would be likely to achieve is just not there. Assuming I could even resurface just that outer skin without completely ******ing the entire base up.
But I may re-paint it. Part of what (to my eyes) might be busy about it might be that the snake is close in color to the stone base and has a similar value to Sonja's skin color. Either painting the base darker or the snake skin darker might improve the contrast between each of these elements and allow things to read more distinctly. I'll be playing around in photoshop with a lot of different color and value combinations before and after I get it. Because, again, I don't want to ****** this up. It is pretty damn incredible as is (is that clear?).

Again, my apologies to anyone I might have offended. I'll try to refrain from any more "creative suggestion" posts unless I actually have something to show people.
That would likely make things a lot easier rather than trying to exhaustively explain every part of what I mean.

Damn, you guys came down hard on Mose for having an opinion...christ he even says he likes/loves the statues on numerous occasions. He does make some off-putting statements in a couple posts but nothing that really deserves the backlash he is getting. I actually see his points perfectly. I too, REALLY like this statue. I also agree the base is a bit noisy and over the top...but still remarkably well done and agree it fits the character. Does that mean a couple guts pieces couldn't be made removable? I find that very possible for SSC to do. Oh, and this will DEFINITELY hit $500...

Saying anyone who doesn't happen to be an artist lacks imagination was the issue...

Anyway, back to this awesome Statue :)

I agree...he definitely could have worded that better. I do think he makes some valid points though. People just keep saying, "don't buy", or "deal with it", or "why hate guts when she's half naked?" :slap Anyways, I think we can all agree that the proto is jaw dropping. I am really torn between POing the EX straight away and risking what the first PF came out like or waiting and possibly missing out on the EX if it turns out like BG turned out.

They did not consult anyone on this forum as to the gore content. This is an artist interpretation, why should they compromise their vision? Mose claims to be an artist they he should be respectful of other artist and their work. him saying "he likes/loves the statue" is like the term 'with all due respect'. it means he still thinks everyone is wrong if they disagree with him. Whatev's, this statue as shown is a perfect work of art. What we get in the end regardless should have nothing to do with impressions of this piece.

I just don't understand why he can't have an opinion? You can all have opinions that this piece is perfect but he can't just because his slightly deviates from yours? He's already stated he likes the piece and is willing to order regardless which shows me that he clearly respects the artistry. I see nothing wrong with him having an opinion about the base of it possibly being simplified in the future. I honestly doubt the creator would have an issue with that opinion...because it's exactly that, an opinion. Ok, I'm done arguing these points. Our opinions are in the minority...I'm fine with that. It would just be nice to come in, express an opinion, and not have it thrown back in your face. Ok, seriously done...moving on...

Anyhow...... I'll be ordering this lady. I love redheads and I love me some half-naked lady with weapon and blood. I am a fan. This is my #1 pick of SDCC 2015.

SDCC just ended and I'm already like, "does this go up Thursday?" Didn't the last Sonja go up in like, October, after being revealed at SDCC? I don't think they'll take near that long again, and I believe someone even posted earlier that they'd said it should/could be going up in the next month or two?

I say just throw it on a table, snap some shots and put it up on Thursday. Let us all throw money at our screen and get the year+ long wait underway. :lol

the gore and the feeling that the base might be too busy are two separate issues.
Again, I do not personally have a problem with the gore. I have, however, seen other people post that they do. That they would be inclined to order it but that they don't want to display something that gory. Why should I care if those people can't get past that and feel a need to bail on the whole thing? Because I think Will Harbottle did a PHENOMONAL job on the figure. I think it is a shame that any one will feel a need to miss out on what I sincerely think is one of the best sculpted human figures that has ever been found on a pop culture collectible.
That's it. That's where I'm coming from on this.

No, with all due respect, that's not what I meant. I LOVE the figure, I LOVE it as a representation of this specific character, And I love the enormous amount of thoughtful detail found throughout the statue as a whole. OTOH, I really LIKE the base. I think it's great, but at the same time can envision it being better in certain ways that I realize other people may not agree with. I'm trying to be candid and precise in how I articulate my feelings here. I almost never think in terms of absolutes.

I try to avoid slinging around the word perfect because i see it used so often that I don't feel it has any true meaning. I also rarely think the majority of this stuff actually is perfect. I usually see plenty of flaws- or at least things that could be better, or more elegantly, composed/ observed/ rendered/stated.

I will say I have a hard time envisioning anyone topping this Sonja as a close to definitive realistic representation of the character. But Will is setting a standard here that other artist are eventually going to try to top. That's the way it works. They know where the summit is now and some are going to have the determination to erect something even taller in the future. I wouldn't say no one will ever top this. But they are going to have to work their a$$es off to do it.

sorry, i realized I said I was done- but I don't want my intentions or words mischaracterized. I feel those are important to clarify- for, I truly hope, the last time.
