Here's the obligatory Han Solo repaint. The paint on my figure was very unimpressive (see shot in the upper right below). It's kind of sad, because when I was working on the R'as al Gul figure, I noticed how well done the paint was. They shouldn't be taking steps backwards with their new stuff.

I also did this Dick Van Dyke figure recently. I'm a huge fan of the original black & white Dick Van Dyke Show from the 1960s, and I've been wanting a figure of him for some time. Luckily, someone on the forums told me that they had made a Bert figure from Mary Poppins (played by Van Dyke at around the same time) and I was able to use that as the basis for my figure. It's basically a Barbie doll, but the sculpt is solid if you can see it under the rather heavy-handed factory paint. The head is hollow and very squishy so I filled it with epoxy putty to make it hard before painting.

Here it is primed white.

And repainted, with a suit on.

I found where I put some of my other "bits" so I was able to mostly complete R'as by adding a black tie, gloved hands, and a samurai sword. (No, not entirely movie accurate, but seems close enough.) The gloved hands are Faramir's, painted black. The sword is Connor McLeod's (had an extra) with the handle painted black and then drybrushed with silver.I just need a suit coat that fits him better and some kind of black scarf and I'll be satisfied. Pretty good for a figure done entirely out of scraps from my bits box.

I like to think that I'm getting better as a painter. I've been experimenting with various things to try and nail down what works best, and I think I'm slowly getting the hang of some things. So I thought it might be interesting to revisit a project I did a while ago -- the T-1000 terminator custom. It was one of the first customs I did, and after a while I found that I wasn't very satisfied with that paint. I've had it on my shelf for months, and I kept saying to myself that I should repaint it. Well, I finally got around to it. I think you can really see the difference between now and last November when I made it.

I hope you can tell which is which...

I also did this partial repaint of the Hot Toys Dark Knight Joker recently, since the original paint apps were too conservative in my opinion. It's not a full repaint -- just some tweaking of the makeup.

Here he is before:

OK! Those are the pics I needed to see. Yes, much, much better. It really helps to see the before and afters too.

Ra's?! Dick Van Dyke! T-1000! Those are all excellent as well. After seeing some full repaints by you, you really are giving Josh and Les a run for their money! What you did with that DVD is really impressive. That was a "Barbie" figure correct? Wow!

Don't go overboard now. ;) I'm still very much a padawan.

Its funny I came to this thread cause of you and Buttmunch's little squable and damn I love to see how you have progressed over time, I hope you are proud of your work. It shows that you have talent and that over time you'll be telling sideshow that you'll be working for Hot Toys instead :naughty

I recently got the Ada Chang Bishop (Lance Henriksen) sculpt, and I tried it out on my full-bodied Bishop (the "battle damaged" one is also going to have its head replaced). The sculpt is very good overall, although the likeness does vary depending on the angle. It's a little too bad that his mouth is open, since that seems to make it look a little awkward from some angles. Still, I find it hard to even look at my old "Frank Black" Bishop heads now, because the likeness is so much worse (and a lot more cartoony looking).

After literally months of looking for Ripley boots that I could use for Bishop, I finally got a good deal on a pair, so I added those. I still need some patches and a knife (for the "knife trick").

I also decided to redo my Drake figure, because I really wasn't happy with my first repaint. For some reason the paint turned out kind of lumpy on his skin, and in general it didn't match the style that I've used for my later marines. I bought a loose Drake head on ebay for less than $10 and started over, and I think it came out a lot better.

I think Josh (DarkArtist) was the first to do something like this, but I decided to try my hand at it when Bespin Luke became available for gift card use. This is a combination of Sideshow's Bespin Luke (with his jacket off) and the Yoda and backpack from the Hasbro Dagobah Luke figure. Interestingly, the Yoda is quite a nice figure with a little help, even though the Hasbro Luke is just terrible.

I didn't repaint either of these. Instead, I just did a little tweaking, like repainting Luke's eyes (the weak point of that figure, in my opinion) and giving Yoda a brown wash to make the two-toned paint job look more natural. The biggest problem with the Hasbro sculpt is that Yoda has his mouth open, revealing sharp teeth that make him look like a little demon, so I blacked his mouth in. I also gave him hair, which I think improved the look of the figure 100%. The "hair" is nylon batting that I think originally was in the "hump" that the Sideshow Hunchback of Notre Dame wore. But I think you can get the same stuff in any craft store. It was just perfect, and I attached it to his head with a little Elmer's glue. Lastly, I dirtied up their clothes a bit, and I was done.

I had considered trying to find a body with less obvious joints, but in the end I decided it wouldn't make that big of a difference. They don't seem to make any rubber bodies that aren't "muscle" bodies, and those would not be appropriate for Luke. I may make a Dagobah-themed base for him at some point.

I think my Yoda looks better than the one on the PF, actually. Partially because of the real hair, but I think the sculpt and paint look better too. The PF version seems kind of cartoonish.

i like it icruise, good job. keeping it simple but detailed in the right places. :clap

The yoda/luke is a really cool way to display those 2 figures, really like it. The surprised how good the backpack looks from a hasbro figure.

Wow, that tauntaun came out really, really great. Nice work on that T1000 also. Kudos.

Great Job with the Dagobah Luke and Yoda. Love the dirty look and wash on Yoda. I wanted to try that as well, but was just too put off by the joints on Luke. I was looking at those Dragon chinese police figures with the short sleeves, but never could find on on the cheap.

Just ordered me an SS T1000 with the sole intention of replicating what youve done here, possibly trying to replicate the hands that came with the SS Exclusive. Brilliant job on the repaint major improvement, Im trying to revise my paint job on my current custom and find the painting really hard
