In resident evil 5 it was more on action and not horror. In this one it looks like its focused more on horror. four and fiive where good but werent scary. Four actually was at time's but def not 5.

You're right about the difference between 4 and 5 but I'm thinking the same thing for this game. In 5 you could play with someone else so that could take away from the fear factor. In this new game, it's based around being in a squad, which means even more people to keep you company!

Unless you get split up and all that, so far it just looks like you'll be shooting endless hordes of zombies. I could be wrong though, it was just a teaser trailer after all.

i guess what they meant going back to there roots was raccoon city im still getting this to good to pass up

Well, Left 4 Dead was just shooting hordes of zombies, and still managed to have great atmosphere and even be scary at times. I guess we'll just have to wait and see on this one.

yea i agree you will get surround in secs leaving you panicking running for your life.

i don't get it chances of people jumping and going ahh you haven't had it happen in a re game in a long time if anyone looking for scares play dead space 2. great game btw

your right in L4D you were always in a scary atmosphere,at one point you will open a door and and there was a hunter, but the thing is you knew they were there becuase you could here them growling or the theme song playing. In this game you will have lickers and dogs jumping out at you from no where and not to mention light's are a big part of gamplay so it's gonna be dark. Then we have the mutated bio weapons hunting you while we have Mr. X stalking you. It looks like you can go in buildings and such so thats also a plus. Oh yea this game will be scary.:clap

Well hearing an enemy and not knowing where it's going to strike from can be terrifying.

I ways loved/feared walking into a room, in the first RE, and only hearing the shuffle of zombie feet or the ticking of zombie dog claws off screen and just thinking, "oh crap where is it..? Do i move forward or wait for it to come for me OH GOD MY FACE!"

L4D had an errie atmoshphere but overall I didn't find it scary in the slightest (still a great game though). RE4 was a departure of the earlier games but still retained enough of that survival horror element but mixed with more action and had severall creepy parts and enemies (Regenerators/Iron Maidens for example). RE5 while still a good and fun game, had no survival horror to it at all imo. Add the fact you had a partner tag along with you all the time made you feel less vulnerable than earlier RE games. Thats one of my main concerns with the ORC is it's supposed to be co-op and while co-op games are fun, imho it really takes away from the feel of feeling vulnerable which is essential in a survival horror game.

I agree with that. This will probably be a fun shooter game set in the Resident Evil world, but I don't think this is the path that I'd want the main series to follow.

If I had it my way, I'd want fixed cameras and tank controls forever, but I know that isn't a viable option and the majority of gamers wouldn't be interested anymore if they kept things that way. I hope they can rejuvenate the series and impress people, maybe regain some of the horror feel of the series in a creative way. I'd really like to see the return of the two stories in one game setup from RE1 and RE2 where they give you different characters to choose from who progress through the game alone for the most part with different story elements and character interactions.

I agree for the most part except for the bit about RE5 having so survival horror at all. There were portions where survival horror parts were attempted. Whether or not they were scary or the feeling of vulnerability present is, of course subjective to the player. Namely the dark tunnel where one of you has to carry the light, the section leading up to the first uroboros encounter, the licker introduction sequence and the subsequent licker corridors you had to silently make your way through. While few and far between, they were indeed there. (if you want to count the lost in nightmares DLC there's that too)....

But yeah, it needed more and for it to be done better.

I don't feel like RE:ORC will be the survival horror answer people are looking for. When it's all said and done, I'm sure similar things that were said about RE5 will be said about ORC. fun, lots of action...but not enough survival horror.

Hopefully revelations and the (hopefully soon) to be announced RE6 will fill those voids.

This game is still going to be badass though.

Indeed. I should have worded myself better. What I ment was RE5 had no survival horror feel to it not that it wasn't attempted. At least ORC will have zombies. But yeah I think you hit the nail on the head Bio, ORC will be fun and action packed but will not have as much a survival horror feel to it as most of us hope for. Another thing is the characters themselves. These guys are not only trained to take on hordes of zombies and BOWs, they look like they can too where as someone like Jill or Chris who look plenty tough, still look like they're at a disadvantage when it comes to fighting zombies (at least in the earlier games).

Also these guys look prepared to take on zombies. In the previous games, the character/s allways started out unprepared for what they had to face. Even if the characters in ORC only start out with a handgun, they still have that, "I'm trained for this sort of situation" vibe too them, like they know what to expect. Even Chris in RE5 despite knowing he has surviving 3 previous encounters with zombies and BOWs as well as his obvious abuse of steroids, felt like he wasn't prepared for his mission. Maybe I'll feel differently once I actually play the game though.

This game will definitley be badass !! :gun
Being able to run and shoot at the same time, sweet.

I think they'll combine fast shooter mayhem with survival horror.

Since this is the most relevant RE thread at the moment, I'll post this here.

An awesome trailer celebrating the 15th anniversary of RE, narrated by D.C. Douglas (Albert Wesker). It shows a few seconds of new RE: ORC footage at the very end.

Excited for everything in that vid except ORC.

edit: I just watched the trailer again and noticed this:

Huh? Cloaking? Why is this in an RE game?

I really hope Mercs and Revelations gets released on PS3 or 360 someday.

Yeah the cloaking feels a bit strange for an RE game but I'm keeping and open mind.
