The Rebellion is doomed.

Cool opening. I'm too lazy to read it all now.

I did bother to read it. Crap. I like the movie better. The story between Vader and Luke is weak in this script, to say nothing of the one-note Emperor. And Ben magically coming back to life? Please. Jerjerrod as dominating Vader? Whatever.

The end is completely diff...Vader tackels Palpatine into a lake of lava....Yoda deflects laser blasts from the netherworld...Obi Wan is there....very strange to try and picture all that.....pure poop!~

Its always strange to see what may have been.

But remember, when GL wrote this, it had only been about three years after the Holiday Special!!! Plus, GL wrote this one. That might explain a few things.

:lol :lol poor old George...should just stick to making ideas and leave the writing to the pros:D

Yeah, it was really weird imagining how things would have been had this draft been the final shooting script. I can't say I would be impressed. Just a lot of really odd stuff happening that I cannot see happening in Star Wars..

hmm, Had Abbadon---funny reference, it's Hebrew for Appolyon---referencing the End Times predictions in the Bible--and George Lucas used it as the name of the planet where the final lightsaber duel takes place.

Wow...that script was awful. I'll admit, ROTJ had some bad aspects to it...the Ewoks...well that's really about the only bad thing.

This script...it just wasn't Star Wars. The characters felt completely different and significantly distanced from what had been established in Episodes IV and V. It's just...it was terrible!!!

I guess it explains the lava thing GL used in RotS. He just had to try to dump someone it it :lol

Actually, the novelization of ANH mentions that Vader got his injuries from a duel in a lava pit with Obi-Wan. That's been in the story from the very beginning.

I read the script, and I loved some of it and hated some of it.

Liked:
The idea of Had Abbadon (name later changed to Coruscant because of the Zahn novels) instead of the 2nd Death Star. I always HATED the use of the 2nd Death Star in ROTJ. What a lazy idea. Coruscant as the final battle would have tied nicely into the PT.

I like the use of the 2 Death Stars, the Imperial Fleet and Had Abbadon as the Final Battle. This is a MUCH grander scale fight than the Battle of Endor space battle.

I like how Leia and the Rebels get to the sanctuary moon using stolen TIE fighters and a stolen Imperial shuttle.

The fact that the Ewoks lived in a cave instead of the trees. They should have kept the tree village idea for the Wookies on Kashyyyk.

I love how the power of the Emperor is shown. He uses the force to choke Vader. Awesome.

I like how the sanctuary moon is a rain forest with dense foliage instead of the Redwood forest they actually used.

Disliked:

The ending is just plain bad. In this script, Vader just kills himself and the Emperor out of nowhere. There isn't much struggling.

There is no dialogue between Luke and his father.

I hated how Obi-Wan came back from the netherworld as a physical being.

I hated how Yoda became part of the netherworld and is present at the final battle. I really like how Luke goes back to Dagobah to complete his training in the movie.

Luke's plan to infiltrate Jabba's Palace is pretty stupid, and the movie version is better.

Overall, I prefer the movie version. I wish that Lucas's original ideas of Had Abbadon, the 2 Death Stars, and the Ewoks' caves would have remained.

i liked many of the aspects this script has in it. funny how we can rip it apart even though it never happened. im pretty sure we would do the same thing if Revenge of the Jedi was made and we just read the script of Return of the Jedi.
seems like george kept the idea of obi- wan coming back to life through the years. remember in phantom menace when little anakin told qui-gon that nobody could kill a Jedi??

He he he... thats probably true. But I will agree with most and say that script sucks big time.

It didn't suck, but it wasn't nearly as good as the movie. The final battle between Luke and Vader is 10 times better in the movie. I kinda liked how Vader sacrificed himself here but I love when Luke takes his mask off in the movie. Obi coming back to physical form is crap and so is Yoda helping in the fight. This isn't Harry Potter.

Read the first drafts of "The Star Wars: the Adventures of Luke Starkiller" and you'll be mortified that what resulted is one of your favorite movies of all time. (At least I was.) It's no mystery why every studio passed on the script.
