Had lunch at the Mall of America Hard Rock Cafe this weekend where they display a lot of his outfits and instruments. His music was being played throughout the mall.

Oh, no doubt Minneapolis will be in mourning for a while. I'd forgotten you had moved there. At my previous job my main client was there (HealthPartners) and they were right down the road from the Mall of America. Interesting place.

The FB link is dead too. The *******s are onto us

Yea, I'm sure Minneapolis will be doing a lot in memoriam for way longer than the rest of the country

That's cool that Purple Rain is being played nationwide. I assumed that only the theaters here were doing it.

Prince was awesome. He'd often go to local clubs that people paid only 5 bucks to get into and would just surprise everyone by appearing on stage and playing for two hours.

Another amazing talent gone. Unlike with most of today's easily interchangeable and replaceable artists, there will never be another Prince, just like there will never be another Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury or David Bowie.

I don't normally take photos inside a movie theater but tonight I made an exception (and it was the final shot of the movie):

Quite the roller-coaster watching this on the big screen with a half full auditorium after what happened this week. Not gonna lie, got hit with the feels pretty hard when he did those two encores at the end of the film after playing the title song of the movie. Just hearing the crowd cheering for him to return and seeing him be able to do it on film one last time. It was cathartic to applaud with the live audience when the film closed. Not one single person left until the soundtrack concluded at the end of the credits.

He was one of the greats.

We watched that this weekend on PPV and I felt the same way. I teared up during the Purple Rain stage sequence. That's my ultimate Prince song and it's placement in the movie is just perfect. If you haven't seen it yet, Google search "Prince Purple Rain Live 1983". There's a video of the first time the song was ever played and it was also Wendy's first live concert with the band. This is a longer recording that was shortened and used for the soundtrack version.

Will do, I don't believe I've ever seen that, thanks! :rock

Still shocked by this... Such an amazing artist...
I watched Purple Rain at AMC on Monday, it was amazing! People were singing, cheering and even a standing ovation!

Yeah, at first the audience was so quiet but then as soon as the movie opened with the awesome "Let's Go Crazy" performance it was great to see everyone's heads start bobbing, tapping their knees in rhythm with the song, etc. I had forgotten that the "When Doves Cry" music video from back in the day was almost a literal match of the montage in the middle of the movie. It was great to see it all on the big screen.

Tomorrow's the last day it'll be playing in theaters, for anyone who wants one final large group experience of Prince and his music I highly recommend that you go.

I'm sure the vibe and feels were the same in nearly every showing across the country. Definitely a great experience and a perfect way to mourn and celebrate at the same time

Just watched that performance last night, it was very cool, thanks again for the heads up. :duff

That was the video I kept linking to and embedding on here that kept being removed at the source. :banghead It's my go-to video when explaining the genius of Prince to people.

Anyway, off to go to this right now (well, 7:30 show):

And, yes, I will have a Purple Rain Cocktail or two... :peace

Pretty much what we expected, unfortunately. :(

Doctors need to start being held partially responsible for this crap. There are many people who don't have the resources that Prince did who have these over-prescribed and meet the same fate. Hopefully this will shed some light on the issue.

I disagree. You open that door, then nobody ever has responsibility or credit for faulty behavior. Drs don't force people to take them (unless inpatient). People need to be held responsible for their actions, as sad and devastating as that may be
