Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

Ben Mendolsohn is great! Check Killing Them Softly, The Place Beyond the Pines, Slow West, Mississippi Grind and Animal Kingdom, he's great in every single one of those movies. However I expect him to suck and ham it up for this new Star Wars movie.
He's a pretty established Aussie actor, we've been seeing him in film & on TV for decades - well before Hollypoop.

Doesn't mean I'm a fan necessarily.

He can't do an worse than that Gleeson dude in TFA, his screaming speech on that podium in TFA was painful to watch.

If the rumors about the reshoots are true and this ends up like F4 and SS, then he might give us one of the worst performances in Star Wars sans Jar Jar :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

I know everyone says he is great, I actually don't know him at all, so hope to be pleasantly surprised, but every pic I've seen him in he has that OTT bad guy grimace on.
No likey.

Start the Mendelsohn refresher course with ANIMAL KINGDOM (2010). Then, after that's blown your mind, watch THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES (2012). From there you enter STARRED UP (for which they robbed him of an Oscar Nomination in 2013). You follow that with LOST RIVER (2014). Then you watch MISSISSIPPI GRIND (2015). Last but not least, you arrive at Netflix's BLOODLINE (2015). Once you finish the last episode - you'll be on the Mendelsohn bandwagon for life.

The most fascinating thing is that out of all the titles above he's almost never the lead actor. The guy just steals movies. He's that supporting actor that you can't get enough of and would love to see leading the film (BLOODLINE & MISSISSIPPI GRIND finally put him front and center).

He's gonna eat ROGUE ONE. Sorry, Felicity Jones & Forest Whitaker. You're up against a force of nature.

every movie has reshoots. we just know about them now because of the World Wide Web.

I thought dude in tfa was pretty great. And that is an actor with some serious range.

yeah he is great, his brotherly banter towards kylo is fun too. :lol

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

You're all wrong.

You have to start with "The Year My Voice Broke." :lecture

I bought THE BIG STEAL and loved him in it. His pre-fame/strictly Australian career is solid, but the parts and performances are just stellar starting with ANIMAL KINGDOM.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16)

There was a weird exchange between Difabs and another member the other day that seemed uncharacteristically mean. So much so that I thought I was misinterpreting it.

He wasn't banned for his joking rant reply to me which I found funny. He was banned for his insensitive and harsh exchange with another member that violated the CoC.

Well, at least he went out on a high note.
I mean, who wouldn't want to rustle Dave's jimmy?! :monkey3

Says the superfan of Batman and Robin.
It's a guilty pleasure, dammit! :lol
But yeah, it's just funny how TFA is mostly loved while B&R is mostly hated.

I forgot about Starred Up, yea, he was great in that too. Bloodline he's great in but I'm just not a fan of the show at all so I didn't want to recommend it :lol

I was talking about specific kind of reshoots though, the kind that drastically turns one movie into something else :lol

I haven't seen much of his Aussie stuff outside of Animal Kingdom. I know he's been in the game since he was a teenager though.
