Awesome! I was waiting for this announcement, and the release date is sooner than I expected. Bring it on!

These are the best soundtrack releases in the history of ever, and it doesn't hurt that they feature some of the best film music ever written, too. And I adore the DVD-Audio option -- I don't ever play the CDs, as the sound is just so inferior to what you get with the 5.1 mix. So it's good to know that the DVD-Audio disc can not only store three full CDs, but four!

Can't wait to hear Liv's song. Perhaps the next year's release will feature it in full.

The color scheme of the Complete Recordings sets matches that of the deluxe versions of the original one disc soundtracks:

The first soundtrack was red and released in December of 2001. The color coded DVD releases didn't begin until 2002, so if anything the DVDs don't match the soundtracks, not the other way around.

I bow to your leatherette soundtrackitude, Tom, but how come I have the BROWN version of the leatherette TTT soundtrack?

I think I got the one with the useless weblinks and trading cards or whatever. I dunno. All I know is it cost me a pretty penny, and all I got for it was a single bonus track of the Lothlórien music. After that I stayed away from the leatherette editions altogether. Now these CR packages -- THAT'S what I'm talking about.

LE -- I noticed Liv's name there, but the song was very truncated in the (also very truncated) Houses of Healing scene; the CR will follow the film mix, so I'm hoping for the full version of the song (which was originally quite full, judging by the ROTK EE featurette) on the 2008 disc. That's all.

Ahh, this will be so great. Meanwhile: I just bought Eastern Promises. A brand new masterwork by Mr. Shore.

Who also said, in his new FSM interview, that he's looking forward to scoring The Hobbit, for what that's worth, after his split with PJ...

I also picked up the brown version, but gave it away to a friend.

Next year, the "Music of LOTR" book by Doug Adams will be released and will include a disc or two full of rarities. That is something else to look forward to!

wow that is a great price. im very depressed though. my copy of the fellowship recordings had a bad accident and the outer box is pretty much destroyed. it was crushed and all 4 corners split apart and the spine is creased pretty bad. all the inside material is fine though. i dont want to replace it though because it is quite spendy.
