All this nonsense is why I got out of figuarts to be honest. I thought that if I caught up to the current releases by buying a few figures at scalper prices it would be smooth sailing and reasonable prices going forward but when all the desirable figures are exclusives or production runs that vanish in weeks....it just didn't do it for me. These are toys/figures...not the stock market. Unloaded my SS Vegeta and Trunks, SDCC Piccolo and (unfortunately) my androids, which turned out to be a huge mistake as I want 17 and 18 now as keepers but I sold low and now i'd have to buy high.

I'll be buying the Da Tong 2.0 SS Vegeta for under $25 USD shipped and that'll be it for me I think. Maybe i'll wait for some android reissues or bootlegs.
You're the guy in Ottawa that I bought my android 17 and 18 from, right?

Yeah man.. you can always restock your display with the Datong bootlegs that are a decent (and mad cheap) substitute. Scouter Vegeta, Normal Goku, SS Goku, Frieza (to be determined), and I'm sure there'll be more. You can even purchase the Trunks & Vegeta reissues when they drop for close-to-retail. I mean, it isn't the ideal situation to have a display consisting of nothing but bootlegs, but they're not bad, in fact I've seen A LOT worse & everyone here knows how bad DBZ bootlegs can be. It takes a trained eye to point out the differences between a Datong bootleg & an original, after all.

Exactly. I am very much a display-guy. I would of course prefer the original and those new advanced colour reissues look great (still too pricey atm for me) but for my needs the corrected Da Tong is all I need.

Heck...remember when the bootleg auctions were going for over $100? The demand is way higher than the supply will ever be and that's why figuarts collecting will always be a grind....never enough supply from the word go.

I'm not one to tell you how you spend your money or display your figures but I just wanted to give some insight. Vegeta is coming out relatively soon, you'd be better off saving your money and getting an official one. Trunks is also coming up as well. SSJ Goku is re-releasing every other day and is very affordable, so there's no need to feed Datong your money when it can go to Tamashii. Same goes for Normal Goku. He is still in a not so crazy price range for under $80, I've seen plenty of $60-$70 ones. Add in the upcoming releases and the recent ones that are still near retail, most of the figures are not so expensive. As for every other figure like the villains or SDCC's, there aren't any bootlegs available (thankfully), except maybe Scouter Vegeta or Arlian. Those if you really want em, unfortunately, you just gotta pay the hefty price. The Androids I really doubt will get any kind of re-release or repaint since they weren't exactly flying off the shelves.

If you can, you should really try to stay official. Bootlegs can be great for custom fodder, filling in gaps for REALLY expensive figures, but if they can be avoided, they should. It's just kinda sad when you see collections that are 80% bootleg figures. Just my 2 cents, again no disrespect or anything, just some insight from one collector to another :wave

Yeah...i checked my ebay records and think i paid you about $105 canadian for both 17 and 18.

Yeah, and I think a few months later 18 started for $95 or more. Basically if you sit on any figuarts toy you will eventually make money. Pretty safe investment if you buy retail.

I get what you're saying but here's the thing, I held the original SS Vegeta in my hands and then the old Da Tong...paint apps aside it didn't feel like a quality difference justifying a ~$240 price gap. The new Advanced Color SS Vegeta looks great (boots are Cell saga though and I prefer early android saga like the bootlegs and the original Tamashii SS Vegeta) but they are still around four times the price of the bootleg.

For a figure that is just going to sit there and never be touched...I don't know...to me it seems like a no brainer to go cheap. If the bootlegs looked like trash i'd say okay, that's not an option but that new reissue from Da tong is....actually their best work. It's really clean and for under $30 it's a steal.

Yeah...my friend is freaking out after erivera94 pulled out on a deal last week. He wanted me to buy 17 and 18 through erivera94 who was selling them for 65 usd and 80 usd. Erivera94 backed out cuz he found a buyer willing to buy for more. I don't blame erivera. I woulda done the same. Lol

I definitely understand if you have to choose between a $200 figure and a $30 figure that's practically just as good. If the gap is big enough, then any person would and probably should go for the cheapest one. Datongs aren't bad at all for bootlegs but if an official figure is still in an attainable price point, that's when bootlegs need to take the backseat. If it's a small difference (let's say $30) that's not enough reason imo to go the bootleg route. It just sucks that this line in particular has become so messed up by scalping that people need to resort to bootlegs just to be able to get one their favorite figures. $200 and up for a 5.5 inch scale action figure is ridiculous, period.

Jeez. lol what happens if they find figuarts buried in the middle-east? WWIII? :panic:

I'll buy the bootleg now since even the Da Tong figures have been sold out and then scalped in the past (believe it or not) and see how low the Advanced color one drops to. It might be worth the upgrade.

Whatever you do, DONT buy the cheap bootlegs, they are not worth it at all. Datong has reissued Vegeta etc and they are easy to find on ebay just now.

It's crazy how even the bootleg managed to go up in the aftermarket. I remember seeing him for over $100 and almost crying at the sad state of collecting. I have a feeling that once the Premium Color ones come in, the OG ones will drop like rocks. That's to say, instead of $300 and up, they'll be under $150, maybe even less. I've already seen some in the $200-250 range. Some people just want a SSJ Vegeta, boot tips or not, so why buy an expensive one, when there's a perfectly good one available for 4-5 times less. I'm hoping to be able to score another official SSJ Vegeta around that time if that scenario does occur. Here's hoping!

As someone who has bought 2 of those bootlegs before I was better informed, I can't emphasize this enough. I bought an Arlian Vegeta that literally could not have all of it's limbs on the body at the same time, since it was so loose.

If the OG SSJ Vegeta went cheap enough I'd pick one up as well just to be more complete. However due to people like us, I highly doubt that it'll get the chance to drop nearly enough for me to want to jump on that.

New premium color Vegeta is only $37 on Anime Island. I own datong and original figures and imo the $5 price difference between the two is worth the step up in quality.

Hmm...not bad. Hopefully shipping to Canada isn't too bad off there, might pick up the awakening Goku too.

Definitely. Many of us have ordered from them on a number of occasions.

Most of the international collectors here prefer the site for its fair shipping costs.

These ****ers at anime island should start paying me. I promote this site enough.:lecture

I live in Toronto. As a fellow Canuck, I'd say shipping from bbts is not so bad. Just don't order too much of a loot from them. You're guaranteed to get slapped with customs charge if you do.
