Oh yes. I agree 100%, the Hasbro one is a very bad version of Death Star 2 Luke. But those custom fabrics from Ebay fit better on Hasbro than Figuarts, making him an excellent Jabba's Palace Jedi Luke.
I still believe that the base sculpt of some Hasbro figures are really excellent. The problem is the poor painting quality.

These are the best figures out there and the likeness and detail is spot on for their scale, that's a fact. I mean I know we should strive for better but ******* these figures nail the likeness to the characters. Comparing to every other figure in this scale, they're phenomenal. Sure, they're not Hot Toys quality but then again they're not in the same category and for where they stand they're by far the best options.

Well, the tunic was a bit to large but the cloak was great addition for both lines. Besides, the ebay seller targeted on the BS line, if she did (I think because of the name when I ordered for the cloak) targeted it towards the SHF then we know what to assume then.

Yes yes! The poor paint application and the inferior gummy plastic, the BS Luke I have couldn't stand straight and has a wonky left leg. :gah:

No, I think thats the way the painting was programmed. It shouldn't go past his hair line, might be a first batch problem :huh

Yea, the neutral faces eyes looks like he's wearing mascara in that pic, but I'm sure he'll look fine in hand.

I hope not all the figures of the first release of Obi get this problem Hyde and knock it right out of the park.

My thoughts:

I don't think it's accurate for any of us to say that it's fact that these figures are perfect likenesses of their movie counterparts. Why? Because there's no such thing as a flawless figure, no matter what company makes it, no matter what anyone says otherwise. There will always be room for improvement. You personally may think Obi Wan or whoever is flawless, but you can't tell anyone else it's flawless, perfectly slim, not slim enough, whatever, because different people have different preferences, and everyone sees things differently than you do. THAT'S a fact, and the only fact that will ever exist. Common misconception but it's true :lecture

We're all guilty of this sort of arrogance; how we can't fathom how someone else can't realize the greatness of something we ourselves think is great.
"Dude that looks so awesome"
"i think it looks okay"
"WHAT?! okay?! are you on crack? it's the best we've gotten, hands down!"
"yeah but i just don't like it"
"WHAT U MEAN???"
etc.
^this is human nature guys, deal with it :lol

That said, I think Obi Wan looks great (keywords I THINK), def the best Obi available right now (at least concerning Ep. I), and now my only concern is attaining a cloth cloak for him, since Tamashii is insistent on not including any cloth material for any of their characters :/

So by some miracle I managed to find the RotJ Luke for somewhere near retail price, it's currently in transit.

Obviously that's got me thinking about figures he could be paired up with for a display, and in the absence of anything else Darth Vader immediately springs to mind. Pretty sure I'm not going to bother with the SHF Vader and Black Series is out of the question, so should I go for the Mafex or hold out for a better effort from another company?

I like the proportions and (gorget aside) general screen accuracy of the Mafex, but in every review I've seen it's clearly a few steps behind SHF in terms of quality and finish. In terms of modding it, could I pull it apart and replace the rubber leg skirts with fabric to match the cape?

Im facing the same dilema, I have figuarts and hasbro, love the size of hasbro, hate most of the figuarts now, thinking of picking up a bandai kit and transplanting the head onto the hasbro body

The Figuarts one is very easily modded yes. I'm currently working on mine but having issues finding the perfect way of making a cape.

I like the fact that Figuarts vader can change height. Planning on adding a cloth cape and side skirts.

You'd think with the amount of reference available it wouldn't be this difficult to make an all-round good 6" Vader :ohbfrank:

Hey where did you find the Luke?

Right!? Hes one of the few characters that every single company has taken a crack at... And none of the are even really that close. My only hope is figuarts nails a 2.0

I meant in terms of modding the Mafex. Sorry if I worded that awkwardly.

Mandarake.

Blows my mind, everyone from Medicom to Sideshow to Hot Toys got it more or less right in 1/6. I'm holding out for an SHF Vader Renewal Version too, but that could be years off at this point :(

Something been bugging me.....why isn't there a centered picture Figuarts Jango Fett?!

Yeah, I agree that S.H. Figuarts are the best aproximation to the characters they're based on. But I think than the greatness of their job is the ability to build an action figure adjusting the sculpt to let work the articulation and viceversa. But I can name several figure Star Wars S.H. Figuarts with a lot of innacurate parts;

- Darth Vader: undersized body, shrinked helmet, bee hips, oversized lightsaber...
- Stormtrooper: Innacurate helmet...
- Luke Sklywalker: large neck, limited and unnatural neck articulation, thinny arms, golden hair (!?)...
- First order Stormtrooper: innacurate spherized chest armor, large neck and undersized helmet, undersized toes, oversized gun...
- Obi-Wan: Don't got it, but I see thinny legs and weird robes sculpt.

Afterall, I still think they are the best Star Wars 1/12 figures, but still far to be perfect. I personally just give that level to Darth Maul and Kylo Ren.

And talking about the other lines, I still love some The Black Series figures. I really love the bulky armored FO Stormie, and I think his look is more accurate than the Figuarts. Obviously, the quality and articulation is lower, but on troopers I think I prefer a more real portrait of the armor.
I also love Rey. I consider one of the best female figures ever made in this scale. Lets see what will bring us Tamashii...
I love Biker Scout and his Speeder, and I think it has an awesome quality-price relation, compared to the S.H. Figuarts version, six or seven times more expensive.
I love Chewbacca. I love Boba Fett. Even I love ROTS Anakin. All those are great "basic quality" figures.

So, talking aobout perfection is only appliable to 1:1 replicas.
