I know more about stormtrooper helmets from all 4 films they appear in, than I should admit.

The SHF R1 sculpt has a degree of stylization to it that renders it inaccurate, but it remains an excellent representation; arguably the best in this scale after you take into account build quality and finish.

The HT helmet isn't that accurate. It's good, but softer than the props in R1, which are tweaked, idealized and symmetrical, but still close to the originals.

No one has ever nailed the originals in toy form, although a few have come very close. Closer than SHF, sure ... but the materials and/or quality let them down.

So I turn off my Nerd OCD and enjoy the hell outta these. With Disney milking Star Wars, someday these may be surpassed, but I'll remain happy with these for now.

In-hand, they display beautifully. No complaints.

^Totally agree. Also think that the Hot Toys is not very accurate and just isn't satisfying at all as a Stormtrooper Helmet, taking into account the OT. I don't really care if this figure matches Rogue One because while nice I don't enjoy the RO helmets over a lot from ANH or ESB. The fact remains that the variety of helmets from the OT due to the manufacturing process makes it easy to just enjoy this figure and imagine it fitting right in. I think it nails the spirit of a stormtrooper.

Funny thing is, they give off an ESB vibe -- something about the length of the eyes and the shape of the frown.

First two of my 6 stormies have arrived....little jewels of pearl like joy! They are very happily matching the speeder scout for presence and quality. A hair behind boba and a hair ahead of ANH and Jedi Luke. SHF are dominating the large shelf.

Right now my living quarters with my gf are pretty tight and I know we will be moving in the year. When we do I have a display idea for all my Star Wars figuarts collection but can't seem to find what I need and might need to custom build it.

Going to have the back be space walls with leds
the sides and front to be clear plexiglass
top and bottom to be gloss black acrylic

Anyone have a similar setup? It would need to be wall mountable. Thanks!

The Mafex Stormtroopers looked more accurate to me, at least relative to their ROTJ helmet. I think once someone makes Stormtroopers etc. properly at this scale people will realise how much they've downplayed how stylised the armoured Figuarts figures are. I just would prefer if they went more for that "looks like a guy in a suit" look.

Woah, Bandai model kit yoda revealed in both 1:12 and 1:6. Wonder if it's any good for displaying with figuarts.

Unarticulated OT version is 1:12, ARTICULATED prequel version is 1:6. Also they come together as one item

My issue with the MAFEX troopers (besides inferior materials, build quality and finish) was the small heads. Something SHF has been guilty of on numerous occasions, to be fair.

I've been pretty disappointed with most of the SHF armored character offerings. The AOTC Clone Trooper is their best looking one. Shoretrooper and Tank trooper are also pretty great. Everything else has something really off. Whether it's sculpt details or proportions.

Darth Vader: scale and proportions are just way off
Stromtrooper: long face, profile too round, missing detail on forearms
Scout Trooper: small abdomen pouches, knee armor not attached to knee, large visor
FO Stormtrooper: short chest armor, small shoulder armor, small feet
Captain Phasma: same issues as Vader
Jango Fett: colors are too bright, thighs could be wider, crotch area looks pinched, arms look stubby, shoulder armor should have been attached to chest
ROTS Clonetrooper: helmet sculpt is plain horrible
Death Trooper: chest too wide/abdomen too narrow, shoulder armor sticks out
RO Stormtrooper: eyes wrong shape, high waist, missing detail on shoulder straps

It's not like they're incapable of making giving them realistic proportions with their articulation scheme. But most of the time they come out looking more robotic than humans in armored suits.

The only thing that bothers me about the new stormtrooper is the missing shoulder straps. All the other RO troopers have them as does the first version of the Stormtrooper. How on earth did this happen? Could it really have been an oversight with the sculpt/mold?

The Mafex troopers also yellowed very quickly. Both that I got and sold immediately already had some of the armor plates yellower than the rest. I also see mandarake and eBay listings where you can see the same yellowing. That figure is abominable to me. I don't care how the proportions look, the helmet is ugly and somehow looks overly symmetrical. The whole thing is rubbery and looks like he's wearing a diaper. Torso pops off easily and shoulder pads are awful. /end rant. I just wish I could find a bunch used for cheap for the holsters.

Yep. But they're cheap plastic, with bad paint...5 POA in 3.75" scale on top of that.

They had a good thing with the BS6" sandtrooper, but the paint apps on those were wildly hit-or-miss, plus the proportions were off and the helmet - while very good - still missed the mark on a couple of points, mostly the ears and the frown, if I recall.

While I've been satisfied (if not over-the-moon-that's-no-moon) with their stormtrooper offerings, I agree...the Phase I clones are excellent, and that Phase II is awful, with everything else (including stormtroopers) having something or other wrong. If I could fix just one thing on the R1 stormtrooper, it'd be the eyes. Everything else I could easily ignore, and as I've said, I'm giving the eyes a pass.

I hadn't even noticed. Maybe I just don't care as much anymore (freedom!!) or maybe it's the scale...

What's odd is the straps aren't just flat and missing the detail. There's a hole.



Could it be for a possible Sandtrooper/Jedha version?

Either that or it's just a detail that got overlooked.
