I hope they are but his clothing is completely different so it should be a whole new sculpt.

Yeah, it should. To be fair it needed a full new sculpt either way, that display piece was just a robe over the existing figure from what I could tell.

The one with the cloak and tunic was a Figuarts Zero statue using the SH Figuarts head.

*Four. Plus two preorders for next year. Still no ESB.

*ooops, five

Well, I hope Mando and the huge slate of TV shows coming next year will stoke the Star Wars flames for them again. I guess Rise of Skywalker may not have been a big merch money maker. I like that they're doing Mando figures but there are still several must haves from the other lines they need to bump out before they focus entirely on TV content.

Seems like this line is done, yeah? No new preorders for a long time, no ESB figures, no preorders for prototypes we saw years ago, and the most recent Mando and Grogu figures left a lot to be desired in regards to sculpt and quality. Sad that they seem to simply not care that much about Star Wars anymore. At least IG-11 was a nearly perfect figure, I guess. Killed me that Mafex pushed back their Mando until spring of next year. I need that beautiful looking Mando to go with my IG.

I can't believe we've come around full circle and SHF is kinda making crappier figures than Hasbro now. I think at this point Hasbro is more willing to invest the time and tooling and parts to really make this the best figures.

Just compare SHF Dooku to BS Dooku is all I'm saying.

Compare the BS IG-11 to the SHF IG-11. Dooku is literally the one example.

I?ll be honest, I wanted desperately to like the Figuarts Mandalorian(s). I can?t touch them without something falling off of the darn things. Such frustrating figures. Both the Beskar and original have the same issues and they?re much deeper than cosmetic. I feel the same about The Child.

Do not agree, entirely, but Figuarts does have a miss every so often and it seems like a much bigger deal because of the price point and that they don't produce figures as often. On the other hand, Black Series has a hit every so often, and it seems like a huge hit because expectations are relatively low. I love BS for what they are, especially since many can be found at discount if you're into hunting. $10 Zori Bliss and Hoth Soldier? Yes please. And I think it's wonderful that my Figuarts collection can be fleshed out with lower tier characters that will likely never ever get made by SHF.

In my eyes, Hasbro has come a long way with their face tech but SHF still dominates with MAFEX now creeping up from behind. Unfortunately, since Black Series has gotten better, that likely has cut into SHF's profits and might have slightly contributed to their lack of enthusiasm for the brand. That and the Hasbro block on the brand in the US. I wonder what the line would be like right now if it could sell at Barnes and Noble like DBZ. Or even like the deluxe Marvel figures. A deluxe Mando and Child two pack would fly off the shelves here, even at $120.

Anyway, I have my fingers and toes crossed we'll still get a few more years out of the line and that some of those figures will be the all important missing gaps, especially lack of ESB. An end of ESB Luke and an OT Yoda are tops of my wishlist.

I’d just like General Grievous, is that too much to ask? I refuse to buy the Black Series one. I just want one, definitive General Grievous figure that I don’t have to build or customize.

Also, the lack of Super Battledroids in 6” from any of these companies is disturbing.

I kinda wish they’d never shown all those prototypes. Every time they pop up it feels like someone is saying “ ha ha look at what you’ll never have! Isn’t it awesome?”

I would love to know what the deal is?

I've always wondered if these Japanese companies are at the mercy of Hasbro somehow? Case in point, SH figuarts Mando seemed to go up for Preorder after the Hasbro version hit, and Hasbro did two of the shore trooper versions in 6" and SH figuarts released the 3rd one, the Captain! Stuff like that does not seem like a coincidence

Speaking of which, picked up the SH Figuarts Shore Trooper - so much better than their Mando v1. Tight joints on every joint. Nice and simple - not overly-engineered. No super tiny pieces

Also of note - Bandai went over the top with accessories for their Beskar Mando, whereas their Boba Fett in comparison was pretty light, but was only really competing at the time with after market $ Black Series and Mafex. Then Mafex announces their Mando, and while they show a prototype with better proportions, flow, and cape, they are lacking in the accessory department. No jetpack doesn't disqualify the Mafex for me but seriously not including that prevents them from having the final say. It's like both companies met on the sly to make both of their products competitive and viable.

On the other hand though I'm not sure what companies get what pre production materials when. Mafex is so slow that maybe they hadn't seen jetpack Mando before they went to work. Bandai spun theirs out faster after receiving spoiler material. Who knows! I sure am curious though.

Hasbro is their competitor, I highly doubt they were planning anything.

I swear Bandai was putting all those prototypes out to show off for Lucasfilm when the Star Wars license was ending last year with Hasbro, to try and put in a bid for it. But Hasbro got it and seems to be no change to the deal. Even if they had modified it to be like the Marvel license where others can do figures at $80+, it would've been a huge change to the Star Wars market.

I'm sure you are right. Thought maybe Hasbro held the license, and all had to sublicense from them. If I paid potentially billions for a license, i'd want ZERO competitors. There is no way that Mafex and Bandai pay that kinda money and then release a couple figures a year.

Generally speaking, Mafex usually gives you more bang for the buck, so the only reason I went with their Mando in beskar over SH FIguarts, even without the backpack: Mafex usually has better proportions and the SH figuarts v1 was not a well done figure. Over-engineered, loose everything and small helmet.

Do you guys think the Star Wars license is just one and done, you pay a price and get everything? Or is it broken up into different media and movies? I'm not sure myself, but the thought has me wondering if Bandai even owns the rights to the old films still, or if they only have Mandalorian.

The Star Wars license is very complex.

It's broken down to a few sections from my past experience.

  • Characters with no faces, ie Robots
  • Characters with Human Faces
  • Vehicles
