Yeah I noticed that I just meant from the showroom pics there is a significant gap under lenses that would at least help in enlarging eyes. Maddening that they can't perfect the helmet sculpt, seems like an obvious mistake. I still prefer this to other versions for the overall quality and natural posing ability, and the accessories look great.

I guess theres still an opportunity for someone to produce the "perfect" vader and stormtrooper helmets for these figures, there seems to still be quite a market for them [emoji1]

Hasbro's $8 toys have better helmet sculpts.

Love Hasbro 3.75 but as for 6" I'll only purchase a figuarts stormtrooper. I hate the way Mafex does shoulder pads and the feel and look of the plastic isn't great either. I'd take this helmet any day over the Mafex, that thing is ugly IMO. Was interested in the Mafex Death Trooper for all the accessories and size, but I can't do it with those shoulder pads.

edit- These helmets look pretty nice, lol: https://www.flickr.com/photos/97939553@N02/31256931430/

Just got this bad boy for ¥2700 (roughly $23). Found him in an anime shop here in Okinawa. Also saw the Shoretrooper and the Death Trooper there. Might scoop em up tomorrow

Heres a quick photoshop I did filling in the gap within the sculpt of the eye lenses to emulate a repaint/touchup. While they're not angular enough, it is a definite improvement and I'm excited about this figure overall.

Sounds like the Bandi model kit would be best for you.

Definitely has some strengths but looks awkward to me overall. I think I'll try it and the DT model out since it will be fun to build either way. Will be my first model kit.

New Stormtrooper looks like overall an improvement - however, looking at these pictures (and I'm sure anyone else who owns the original version will agree) for all the tweaks it really doesn't look as nicely-made as the first version.

I guess time will tell if I end up regretting ordering three of them...

I go back and forth -- depends on the photos. Waiting to check 'me out in-hand. Pre-ordered 4 so here's hoping they deliver.

How'd you get it so cheap? Are those the average prices there?

Well I had a coupon for ¥1000 off so originally he was ¥3700. Star Wars Figuarts that I've seen are usually like $15 cheaper than usual compared to online prices. I'm assuming they can sell them for less because shipping isn't factored in.

Any word on Death Trooper Specialist pre order?

After seeing those guys on screen I HAVE to have both.

Did anyone else get a HL2 Combine vibe from them??

Haven't seen it yet but I see what you mean. And damn, imagine figuarts Half Life figures. Would be so so good.

Nice! On a side note, can anyone tell me what they are using as a gloss coat on those Jango customs I saw a while back? I might want to try something and am wondering if you all used a spray and if it holds up to flexing plastic without cracking. Thank you.

Tamiya acrylic clear, it comes in a little glass bottle, just a clear paint from a line thats often used for painting figures. Pretty much as long as it's acrylic it should work.

I highly suggest you give the figure a little bit of weathering first, just water down some black paint, dab a tissue in it (or use a brush), apply it to the figure, and then either dab it off, if you want a nice "splattered on mud" effect, or wipe it off if you want a streaky look. You can use the same watered down black paint to highlight the line detailing on the helmet if it didn't get painted.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! I will try my hand at it this week. I would love to see someone attempt a Sandtrooper when the new stormtrooper comes out. Wish there was a casting store that sold pauldrons.
