Anaheim makes bid for Comic-Con

The city of Anaheim is trying to lure the annual comic book and sci-fi convention called Comic-Con from its home in San Diego.

Anaheim officials confirmed this week that they have submitted a proposal to Comic-Con board members to host the event at the Anaheim Convention Center in 2013.

Comic-Con began 40 years ago and has grown into one of the region's largest annual conventions. It routinely attracts more than 120,000 people.

The Orange County city says its convention center is bigger and it's closer to Hollywood and Los Angeles. The San Diego convention center has also submitted a proposal to keep Comic-Con there through 2015.

Internal surveys show attendees spend $60 million on lodging, food and transportation during the four-day event.

So ACC instead of SDCC? Interesting....I wonder what will come of it....

Sounds like it's turning into a cluster_____k where it currently is unless the SD convention center gets bigger.

I live in socal so i would go anywhere it goe's even if comic-con went to vegas.

Anywhere but LA. There isn't a Gaslamp type district in downtown LA near the convention center.

Anaheim has a ton of hotels and it closer to other major areas. Also, Downtown Disney would be a great tourist trap for SDCC visitors.

they're spreading it out now. Some of the panels are now in neighboring hotel ballrooms, which I liked because you get a chance to get away and the lines were smaller.

I'd prefer it to go to Vegas personally if it is going to change. I got family in Vegas so that would cut costs down a TON. Free room? $600+ saved right there!

Disneyland Comic-Con might not be too bad though.

I'd be all for the move to Anaheim, so long as the venue is larger. The SD convention center is no longer large enough to house this event.

379.56 miles from Mesa to Anaheim
378.56 miles from Mesa to San Diego

I think the choice is obvious. :duh

The problem with Vegas is that traffic can be really unbearable there, driving there from out of state isn't always easy, and...it is dirty. Before we had kids, we had gone to Vegas three times and everytime the roads were filled with litter, prostitute ads (some X-Rated), and everywhere reeks of smoke. We were just tourists, but Vegas just seemed really filthy.

Anyone who hasn't visited Downtown Disney is missing out because it is a great place to just walk around and drink a coffee.

Downtown LA would be cool... with all that LA has to offer, i would think the trip would be easily justified no matter where one is on the planet.
