San Diego Comic Con in Anaheim?

The problem with Vegas is that traffic can be really unbearable there, driving there from out of state isn't always easy, and...it is dirty. Before we had kids, we had gone to Vegas three times and everytime the roads were filled with litter, prostitute ads (some X-Rated), and everywhere reeks of smoke. We were just tourists, but Vegas just seemed really filthy.

Anyone who hasn't visited Downtown Disney is missing out because it is a great place to just walk around and drink a coffee.

Oh god, I didn't think about smoking inside. That could make the whole con experience a hell. Let's keep it in California.

Seriously, we went to Zion National Park last year and drove through Vegas to get there. We ate at a Denny's and even the flipping pancakes tasted like cigarettes.

Vegas = Old ladies + cigarettes

I'd prefer it to go to Vegas personally if it is going to change. I got family in Vegas so that would cut costs down a TON. Free room? $600+ saved right there!

Disneyland Comic-Con might not be too bad though.

Meh no thanks. Vegas is fun and all, but I can't imagine it being a good area for this type of event. The annual porn convention yeah, comic book convention?? no.

I think if it moves, a big part of the experience of being right there within walking distance of many hotels and places to eat, etc, will be lost and it might take some of the 'fun' away...

Agree.

And, don't forget- Disneyland is *hellaciously* crowded on the weekends in July. It already takes way too long to get to DL just from the overcrowded freeway offramp!

I can't imagine wanting to add to that already massive street/hotel/restaurant congestion with another 150,000 people plus?

Sounds like insanity to me...

I can't imagine SDCC being anywhere but San Diego. WizardWorld already has a con there after a failed attempt in LA due to poor ticket sales. I would actually be fine with Splitting SDCC in half and having the "hollywood - Video Game - Pokemon" Bull _____ move to Anaheim and having a Wondercon type con left in San Diego. WonderCon and SDCC are run by the same people anyway so putting on another "Wondercon" type event would't be that big a stretch for them. Anaheim points out that they are closer to studios and movie stars that attend? like these people DON'T have the resources to go to SD? Bull$____.

I go to SDCC primarily to see and chat with my favorite DC creators, buy art and get the occasional comics related to toy exclusive. Everything else is just overkill.

That would be fine with me, I have little interest in the comic side. But I have a feeling that wouldn't help the overcrowd problem as I'm afraid most people are there for the celebrity events from the studios.

I'm ok with keeping it in San Diego (I love it in July there), moving to Anaheim, or getting it to Vegas (for selfish reasons :devil). I don't know enough about Anaheim to criticize but in LV the main problem would be the heat in July and the cosplayers wouldn't mix too well. We have plenty of hotels/casinos within walking distance and I believe the convention space would be smoke free (currently it is ok to smoke in the casino where you are gambling but it's prohibited in restaurants and in other hotel areas where there is no gambling). Rates in July are pretty reasonable here too so it might not be a bad deal.

Don't know if I'm crazy about the idea to moving it to Anaheim or even Vegas. One of the reasons I like it where it's at is the whole ambience of after-Con -- like a huge street party in the Gaslamp. Like the idea of being able to walk nearly anywhere without having to fight traffic and parking. Plus, the very moderate temperatures in mid-July.

Don't know if Anaheim can offer the kind of vibe that I enjoy so much in San Diego. And Vegas would have a totally different sort of vibe. I wouldn't have any problems with going to a casino after-Con, but that would mean I would have to factor in more $$ to blow (after all, what is the point of Vegas -- IMO). Temps in Anaheim and in Vegas in mid to late July could be brutal. And as much as I love Disney, I would not be inclined to visit the park with the huge lines and the crush of people on summer vacations.

SDCC moving to Anaheim?!? Bad idea, IMO.

The convention center is right across from Disneyland and the whole area is a tourist trap.

Not to mention the traffic on Katella Ave & Harbor Blvd along with the 5, 57 & the 22 Freeway nearby.

Plus there's really nothing like the Gaslamp Quarter in Anaheim.

It has traffic but it is easy to get around on foot downtown (I believe this is what people are referring to). I don't know that Anaheim would be as good to walk around in.
