Maybe use a comb or something before the clay dries.

Hmmm... I never thought of actually using A comb, to achieve a more combed look. Maybe one of those real small ones (assuming it would actually work)?

I'm thinking it would need to be sharper. Maybe I could rig something up. Thanks for planting the idea in my brain!

I think that you have the likeness down! How about a soft, medium, or hard bristle toothbrush. They also sell the wire brushes at harbor freight really cheap.

Just use a toothpick or exacto.

Yeah I usually use an exacto knife, but it doesn't seem to work out for me.
