I still have to show Angel's wagon. I also bought a chicken carrying cage made out of bamboo which I think will work nicely as a Human cage. I'll try to take some photos later tonight.

Jess, would you know how to make 1:6 Epaulettes?

I need help, and quite a few of my figures need them.

Those look easy. You will need embroidery floss, and whatever round thing goes on top of the shoulders. Then make a simple latch hook knot around the edges, and trim evenly:

PZ, could you use your gift cards for that base?

Hey, I know how you could get something kinda like that for way less! Just make it yourself. You'll probably find it quite relaxing, too. :)

Sticks - I once bought some gold fringe and then I cut it much shorter in order to decorate the outside of Ziras carpet bag from Escape. You should check out the fabric store in your area and look at all the fringe that's available to you or try what Jessica just suggested. In fact, you could probably use gold string like I used on the tassel of your ape horn. That would look great in the making of the epaulettes.

PZ -I think that would be a fun and easy project to build. You really should give it a real try! I'd love to see your take on it. Seeing you make this would be a real motivator for me. :)

The more I look at it the more I want it. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

Problem is: how to get it for WAY less than the retail price of $140! :gah: :gah: :gah:
Yeah, Sideshow's scenery bases are uberexpensive. I have seen several similar items made with sturdy styrofoam and spraypaint.

Check out this cool picture of POA in a world with Predators!

An ultra cool idea. i've liked that print since I first posted it way back when. I think it would make as interesting a short film as Batman: Dead End. Jess, think we could talk Sandy into venturing beyond Gotham and into the Forbidden Zone. He is a fan afterall. :monkey3

I heard from Snick, guys! He said that he didn't know that a good looking chimp could be hiding in Sideshow's Caesar! :yess:

The polystone of the SS dioramas actually give them substantial weight. That would be the only thing your diorama would be missing--but you could always build it up on a heavy base to begin with. The heavy base would make your diorama easier to work with as far as staying where you need it as you pose your figures for those action shots. Brick lines are easily scored onto foam. Paint does wonders, too. For texturing, you can always use Apoxie and stamp the broken stone/brick texture with a real broken brick.

Link looks amazing. I take it Spongebob is just his practice partner until he travels to Central City? LOL

I started painting 4 gorilla sculpts today. Julius really does almost paint himself. A real pleasure to work with. I need to do some touch ups as my patience is as short as my time to try and get things painted. A few messups around the hairlines. I'll try and get pix over the next few days. I may try and convince myself to try an orangutan too.

Has anyone heard anything from the Blam! Ventures folks? I have emailed them a few times and gotten no response. I missed them at the Con and really want to get some info on when Conspiracy will be out and see if I can get a set of those Con cards. Its my fault, I was having such a blast with my son I forgot to go and look a second time before I left.
Hearing anything would be nice.

Ironman--here's what Drew posted:

Drew Gaska: "Timelines are in flux and lanes have been changed on the highway. As soon as I can let you know what exit we will be taking I will let you know. Myself, BLAM, Apes, Space 1999 and Critical Millennium are undergoing a major promotional overhaul and all sorts of info (and products!) are coming, starting late 2010 and all throughout 2011 with constant updates.

Look for information on the "GOD MILLENNIUM" signing and promotion tour coming soon, and feel free to start following me on Twitter @drewgaska for more info."

Does anybody do Twitter? If they can keep an eye on that and post Central City with updates, that would be uber cool. I do not have an account there and am not interested in creating a new one....

Jess, do you happen to frequent the mego Museum forum enough to get an administrator to email me? I can't access the forums nor can I get anyone to repond to assist me. <sigh>

I thought I would have time to make a small mask for Zira and Cornelius, for Halloween, and take photos, but that never happened. I was working until the last moment on Ashton's costume (Ethan, too, but that was a simple sewing project). The cool thing was that I learned something new in the process of making the mask and it was awesome to see how fabulous Ashton looked next to the mask that did come with his costume! He was just the cutest ninja turtle ever, cause even though he's 6 years old, he can still wear size 4 toddler clothes. I cut out the teeth of the slush latex mask and glued down white mesh to provide ventilation. Still didn't help though. When he took off the mask his hair was really sweaty. I don't know how people can stand to be in latex masks. Glue the foam latex on me anytime...but I don't think I can deal with just a latex mask over my head--that would be claustrophobic.

Ironman--I am very impressed with Scott's sculpt of Roddy as well as the Cornelius appliance. Can't wait to see it done and haired up. He says he will do silicone, which may be great for a static display but not to wear as I believe the muzzle would be too heavy. I hope he punches the hair and does the hairline correctly.

I really don't think the SS Dr. Zaius really looks like Dr. Zaius. Didn't someone have him professionally painted? Did it help bring out the Maurice Evans out of that sculpt? Maybe it's just me. I think he just looks too darn friendly. Here are some quick photos off the internet of the prototype and production piece. I think Angel's method of dental surgery really did wonders for the SS sculpt. Wish I could find photos of that...

Your right Jess, when Angel opened the mouths and put the teeth in, it really enhanced the apes in a more realistic way. I still don't know how he put those little teeth in! I have a couple that he did for me and they are really cool to look at! The recent Caesar sculpt that you have pictured looks crazingly like roddy on conquest and I would love to get one. I am still going to throw little reminders to you ever so often on your Dodge, Landon, Burke, and Virdon sculpts. Gotta love them! Later, Kent.:exactly:

Kfog, my girlfriend said that Virdon didn't look like Virdon, when I showed her the sculpt in person. I need to revisit him again. Also, I sent Burke out to Charles Hughey, hoping he would look great but the painting brings out the ugliness in the sculpt. This I didn't realize because Burke looks great unpainted. Ironman, if you are having trouble painting up Burke it's because my sculpt of him sucks. Sorry about that. I'll make it up to you somehow.

Thanks goes out to Jessica for making these 1/6 scale resin ape heads available to us.

Because I won't be able to work on my projects for a while, I thought I would show some "test fit" in-progress photos:

I can't wait to see these guys painted up!!!

I'm going to a costume party for kids, and Dylan doesn't want to wear his gorilla pullover until tonight, so guess what? I'm going to wear it! I'm going to have to black out my eyelids. I better eat now because my hair will be a mess underneath, and once it's on, I don't want to remove it because then I'll have sad black eyes! LOL~!

Yikes I better go and get ready. We are leaving in 20 minutes and at least I want my gorilla hair to be beautiful.
dsc05583w.jpg

Edited to say:

WOW. I did get my ape on, and it didn't take that long! Probably less than five minutes--to just black out my eyes and re-pin some of the hair. Everyone was shocked at the party because the mask looked so believable. I didn't black out my hands, so one guy asked me what my nationality was. When I told him he asked if I could take the mask off and I said no way, because I had raccoon eyes and then I'd have to restuff my hair under there. I'm going to have to work on a Zira pullover. It's great to be a gorilla, but I really prefer to be a female chimp. I must have looked rather silly sitting daintily like a girl with my legs crossed at the party. Plus I didn't want to use my last pair of contact lenses, because I'll save that for the next convention, so I wore my glasses on top of the gorilla appliance. It would have been better if I had latex ears to hook them on, but I didn't...even so, they miraculously stayed on. I just love to dress up!!
