This is my collection of Marx Thunderbolt horses. <a href="https://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/?action=view&current=Cavalier008.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/Cavalier008.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I have two more not photographed, and those I can't remember the manufacturer, but supposedly it is 1:6 scale and it's a model of a horse with the inside and guts and skeleton--those are still boxed up and need to be glued together.

I am trying to find a photograph of Zira and Cornelius with one of my horsies but I can't find it at the moment. :gah:

I agree with Jungle--don't buy those furry rat-faced horses. You will be really disappointed.

Here's a photo of gorillas on horseback:
<a href="https://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/?action=view&current=apes7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/apecityoutfitters/apes7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Aha! FOUND them! Sideshow apes run smaller than your typical human, so the Marx horses I think are perfect in scale. They could be a tad larger, but I don't have the ability to sculpt them from scratch...and besides, these horses are not "my little pony" horses.

Thanks.
So is it the fur or the face that you guys dont like about those horses?
Or both?

The rat face is a big problem plus... in hand, the bodies are super wide.

If you like my little pony go ahead and purchase.

I have never seen those horses in person--only in photos, but there's something not right with them anatomically. There was a brave soul on the OSW that skinned that horse up and modified it to have the proper musculature. It looked wayyyyy better after his work on it.

There's also a guy from Mexico that sells 1:6 scale horses, but the specific breed (is that the right word?) is not appropriate to the type of horses on Planet of the Apes. I will have to try to find that link for you...the horses are more than $100 but they are really beautiful.

Here is a discussion on OSW with photos of various horse types available:

Ok, thanks guys.
I can definitely see the "furry" horses have anatomical issues now that ive had a proper look of them comparred to the horses you have both suggested.
I came across this custom horse while doing some research.
I think it looks great...

I think I might go this route.

You found it! :hi5: That's the Tony Barton rework of the rat-faced horse. If you are a member of OSW, you can see his horse build-up here:

Here is a photo of that horse after it was skinned, before he worked his magic on it...

And that photo you posted above is the finished product. One of these days, if I ever find the time, I will try to make the Thunderbolt horse a little bigger by elongating the legs and parts of the body and resculpting. I think it would be a good learning experience. Someday...just don't have time now.

Hi STicks!!

Haha, yeah, Im not a member of OSW but thats where I got that pic from. Ive just finished reading all the posts on that thread.
Im most likely going this route now.
I really dont like the "furry" rat faced horse now lol
It just HAS to be modified!
I'll probably get those Marx Thunderbolt horses too as another source of reference and as a "back up" incase something goes wrong with the rat-face horse mod.

Do you know how much those furry horses are going for now? It would be a real fun project, but I think it's still an expensive armature. Plus--it's really creeping me out, seeing the horse flayed like that. I don't know if I would have enough nerves to cover it up with clay after peeling it up...it's just too disgusting to look at and I don't trust myself to not feel grossed out and toss the project. I am already feeling queasy trying to imagine touching that thing.

Yeah, it does look very...weird when it has no fur LOL
But I like to think ahead and imagine how much better its going to look when finished.
And youre completely right, this is going to be an expensive project...but then it always seems that way for me as I always seem to arrive late to the party...when everything costs a LOT more :monkey2

I love your POTA projects by the way, awesome work!

Welcome to Central City! Thanks re: my projects. I can't wait to see yours. All of these projects take up a lot of time and energy but it's time well spent as it keeps me out of trouble. At least my family knows where to find me, right?

Glad I was finally able to view all of my Photobucket photos. For a loooong time, I could only access the latest 125 photos. I was really frustrated. Today I was able to see all of my old photos still there. Whew!

Thanks! And yeah, im quite new to customising(and even collecting in general)
but I agree, these projects do take up a lot of time and energy...more than most people would imagine.
But its REALLY enjoyable in most cases...and as you said, keeps us out of trouble!

Hey Gates...

I would advise a different horse. These horses just don't look right. I'm sure you could find one a lot better. Some I have seen even have articulation. I have even seen the one you linked in person and it will surely disappoint you.

Search on!

Good to know, thank you good sir !

Hi STicks!!
:hi5:

I still think it's the head that really throws it off. It seems too narrow and too small.

Anyways, Here's Dragon DML's Horse named Blitz.

SS Gorillas are only 11.5 inches tall and seem a little small on him, but the HT gorillas look at lot better on him, IMO.

Oh yikes! :thud:

For that much I would rather get a Hot Toys gorilla soldier. :slap

Good luck guys on your quest for horses. :hi5:

Thanks Jessica...I might just do that (search for a soldier instead). That Blu-Ray box set I was talking about the other day should arrive tomorrow as well :yess:
