I think it's important that all the people buying these Hot Toys really really like them and that they find that price justified by it's quality.

From what I saw at SDCC first hand, I KNOW that I will be one of those satisfied customers. :naughty

Personally, I think its exciting that any company is making new stuff for us Ape fans to buy... albeit expensive. And for that company to be Hot Toys, well... we Ape fans should be counting our lucky bananas. :banana:banana:banana

I was excited when I saw them, though I don't like the gorrilla head sculpt, but when I saw the price, I thought it was a giant middle finger to everyone interested...

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the hasbro hair... I still like the hasbro gorrillas best...

After seeing these new Hot Toys - I'm really glad I didn't get any of them. For that much money, I'd expect so much more. The best thing, to me, are the silver plates mounted on the general’s vest. That part looks really good. Overall the body & clothes are very similar to Sideshow’s. Not worth the price difference between Hot Toys and Sideshows. The helmet and the real hair of this piece are also very disappointing to me. Okay I'm done now Hot Toys fans. Go ahead and bash me now.
Not a Hot Toy fan so don't look to me to give you your jollies. :lol

For that much money they could have done alot more too. Just get a silver felt marker pen and colour in the Sideshow blocks on his vest, shoulder armour, and gauntlets and you'll have the same thing. For some reason the shoulder armour sits better on the HT version, and don't flair outwards so much. The boots are comparable in quality. The Sideshow boots being slightly larger and the buckles more noticeable because they coloured them in with, perhaps, a silver marker. :lol I actually like them better. The cloth is the same just a different colour. Sideshows sculpt is black and the creases aren't as well defined. HT sculpt is brown, as is their helmet, with the glyphs being black. Sideshows is vice versa.

I'll get a group shot soon.

Depends on which version of Beneath you watch, the colors have been tampered with so much with each subsequent release...:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Do you have any screen grabs that show a brown Ursus? I'm curious. The color in that last version of Beneath (the one I got in the Caesar head) is a bit darker than any previoius versions but he still looks black in my eyes.

Speaking of color tinting, at least the corn field in the original is finally green again... unlike the grey field in the laserdisc version. :horror:horror:horror

But angel, how many of Sideshow's apes have you modified? How many other folks' modifications have we seen?

Ironman - You're right. I have modified nearly all of my Sideshow figures. But it's not because I was unhappy with any of them. The only reason I modified any of the ape sculpts was to create some "new" characters, or to create a "greater variety" amongst my collection. In fact, the only real head modification I ever did was to open the ape mouths for a bit more variety. It turns out, in my opinion, that this is actually a better look for all of the apes.

If you think about it, I only did a few modifications to my Sideshow figures because I was unhappy with them.

I repainted Zira’s shoes the correct color –brown!

I darkened most of the gorilla bandoliers a much darker shade of brown.

Lastly, I made General Ursus a much better helmet. (I also slid his gun holster to the opposite side of his body, but that’s hardly a modification.) Those are the only changes I did to these POTA characters.

Oops! Jungle Jom also made a better blanket/poncho for slave Taylor. Thanks JJ!

I never modified any of the other Sideshow POTA figures. I don't think any changes were needed. I liked the rest of the SS figures right out of the box! I guess I’m just a big fan of the Sideshow Product. To me, I got more bang for my buck with Sideshow, even at $50 a SS figure.

Like I said in a post earlier today, I honestly hope that those who bought the new Hot Toys are "tickled pink" with them. Peace Ape Brothers! Peace. :peace

Really? It's that a bit harsh? Knowing how much Hot Toys charges for figures, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the cost. The bird didn't appear to be flipped in my particular direction.

Every company has it's champions. Sometimes it's fun to be in the minority. :D

I didn't see a giant middle finger at all. As a matter of fact I was pleasantly surprise by HT giving the POTA a lower pricepoint.

I think hasbro had decent faces on their gorillas, even the rest were decent simian sculpts, just not all screen accurate. I think the hair, however, was terrible and hurt the line. One could look past the outfits at the price they were selling for but the hair should have either been done better or molded.

God, I hope I still like the HT's once I get them. :monkey3

I think you'll like them Ironman. They're a step up, I think, but only another step. They have their bad points but mainly because of the overlap and price point. Cheaper than other Hot Toys, which makes Sideshows shine, but still, the more bang for you buck has always been Sideshows forte, until recent years.

The angrier look is closer to the films and the hair gives it an appeal, for me anyways. The plus is, more apes, outfits and accessories to broaden your collection.

Don't have much time, so these pics will have to suffice.

I will have to say that I am just glad that Hot Toys has did these Planet of the Apes figures. I agree that they are a bit pricey, but it is encouraging because this may very well be the beginning of more acurate characters to the Apes line. I am looking forward to what they may come up with next! Maybe The Presidents of the Assembly, more mutants, a better Brent sculpt, Dodge, Landon, some crazy looking wild humans, Lucius, Armondo, ect. They could have just as well not made any at all! I believe that you should get what you pay for and that they (Hot Toys) should listen to the feedback of their buyers. I will still buy these, but lets get them as film accurate as we can because We deserve it for shelling out a premium price. I also believe that Hot Toys, Sideshow, and Hasbro Apes can compliment each other depending on how you use them. Angel, Opening the mouths of the SS apes was a masterfull idea and You literally made them look better that way! Kudos Brother!:banana

No, I've never seen his face brown, I was joking... As I've said before I'm irritated with the tampering of the color of the gorilla tunics in Beneath.. Planet & Battle they are still navy, but someone wanted to change them in Beneath and make them black... I don't know what else they altered...

Here is my motocycle cop gorilla. I picked up this $8 digital camera from big lots, as you can see its not even worth that. I was debating whether to use the white helmet, or stick with the black helmet as the one had in the (gasp) Burton movie.

Angel, and Kfog,

Sorry, I haven't gotten out yet, I know, but I've been very busy. I will get them by this coming weekend. I've been working 18 hours days on the set and have someone special coming to see me for the next tow days. I should be able to get the head and cane in the mail by Friday, sorry, I hope you understand.

I'm going to bash my Apes, I can't wait for them. :)

Hasslein, where did you get that motorcycle? That looks great.
Yes, Angel's work on opening the SS apes mouths added some variety and detail to them that was missing. I would love to see if the same thing could be done to the hasbro versions.
I'm not holding my breath for any humans in this line from HT (although I would LOVE to see Nova look like Linda Harrison!) but I certainly hope for more apes.
With any luck maybe Jess might have some info about that when she returns.
And, speaking of Jess :
HI JESS!!! :wave
