I thought about buying those black wigs for a while so we are thinking alike.
I bought two of the brown wigs and made a furry chimp head. Probably the best advice I would share is to use thin double sided tape to secure the wig parts. I used drops of super glue but it still soaked through.

I contacted the wig seller and tried to explain a couple of times that I wanted to purchase just a sheet of the fur. Sadly, English wasn't his primary language and I failed to communicate. I have even purchased “craft fur” online and researched fly fishing lures materials. When it arrived, it was too coarse and would not follow the contour of the head like the brown fur I purchased and Hot Toys’ fur does.
