Forgive me if there's already a thread about the series, I searched but didn't find any. If there is, feel free to show me.

Does anyone else here enjoy the Saw series? I recently went through the entire series again for the first time in a good while and remembered how much I enjoyed the series. I know it gets a lot of hate for having so many sequels this past decade, but I really enjoy the series and how deeply interconnected every installment is. I think for it's time at first it was very creative and fresh, and Jigsaw is an awesome villain. I had fun seeing the sequels every year annually, it was a fun tradition.

If you've seen them all, how do you rank them in your order of preference? I rank them as:

2
1
6

The 7th one (in 3D) was somewhat disappointing but not that bad overall, viewed together with 6, the two movies make for a satisfying enough series finale.

Yeah, the first one was kind of cool because it was different than other horror movies we had seen. But 2 and 3 were derivative and tedious to me despite attempts to make the movies seem clever or different on some levels, and I didn't see any more after that.

Haven't seen all of them but the ones I did see I thought were enjoyable films. Not sure I should be saying that about films revolving around torture.

My issue was that the games started to be where it was people fighting each other to survive, so someone was definitely going to die and there was nothing they could do to stop it. To me it should have always been a situation where they would always have a way to survive (not that they have to survive, but at least have the option there)

Viper, wasnt that part of the over-arching plot?

None of Jigsaw's "apprentices" had the same strength of character as Jigsaw himself, and thus were making the "games" un-beatable?

Still...i tuned out for the most part after part 2...the charm...and intelligence..had gone

That was a small part, but it wasn't supposed to always be the case.

Another issue was that in some cases there were obvious exploitations in the machinery. Like in the last one where the one girl was on that wheel like thing that was turning her face towards some poles to stab her. There was a bicycle chain turning it which he could have easily jammed with a shoe. Or the last game where he had to put the hooks through his chest to hold himself up, he could have just looped the chains around his shoulders (using the hooks to keep it in place).

This always struck me as a "check your brain at the door" type franchise, though.

It was like this from film one thought; Dr Gordon's task was to kill Adam via a poisoned cigarette. Adam's task was to stop him.

I love this film series. Number one was suberb - spesh the twist at the end. I would rank them
