I have the plastic IM MK 7 from Avengers, would it be a good call to sell it and use the money towards a diecast Iron Man?

In most cases I would say yes, but for me, the VII just has so many options for display I'm keeping mine. I've got just about all the varieties of VII, Original, Battle Damaged, Midas, Stealth, Sub-Zero, etc. It's got so many facets I won't part with them. I understand your logic, it's sound, but think of display options. I too have the DC on order.

Unless you want to hold onto the older figure for historical, nostalgia reasons than I would say yes. All the new figures from the DC Iron Man line, particularly from about Mk45 onwards look much nicer..

I want to sell all my IM figures and don't even know where to start. People aren't paying the original retail price for them. I thought for sure I could find someone to pay $180 plus shipping for the Mark I War Machine, for example.

I don't have them to compare, but people have been blinded by the word die cast. I'm sure the older ones don't look that bad, but probably it's mostly in the headsculpt.

I thought other collectors reported the older plastic Iron Man figures had red portions that became discolored (eventually turning pink).

I think that was the mark 4 and mark 6 from iron man 2. Havent heard of it with other armors.

I have the plastic and die cast mark 6 and for as much as i like the die cast version, the battle damage on the plastic version still looks better to me.

I have comsidered selling off some of my figures to make up for how much I'm spending now but as of yet, I've held out.

I would think by now that most of the collectors who've been around for a few years know that the figures aren't better because of the diecast per se. The weight is nice, but all of the improvements are a product of improved engineering, paint apps, sculpting, proportions, etc. If diecast was the "excuse" to create newer Iron Man figures, I'm all for it. Only thing that sucks is the price and the fact that the weight makes flight poses more risky.

That said, you're right in that the older plastic ones don't look bad when viewed in a vacuum. But next to the newer ones it's no contest.

Even if you remove the die cast from the equation, the amount of engineering and work the new ones bring really elevates them. I don't think you'd feel like you wasted your time upgrading.

This can really apply to any figure; selling older made figures to buy newer ones. The newer ones will always be built and designed better than the older figures, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth it. I know I wouldn't buy an Iron Monger 2.0 if they made one with die-cast. The original still holds hope and looks amazing.

I don’t do Marvel often, but the exception as I have owned a lot of Iron Man figures, probably about three dozen different ones. I currently have Mark VII Battle damaged version, and Mark 45, got rid of all the rest. I canceled my diecast mark pre-order, I like the battle damaged version the best, and the 45 after that one. It helps if you can see them in person, then you can come to your own conclusions as I have.

Plastic Man was always cooler than Iron Man, IMO.
