OK...I am not an avid cat person. I like to have a cat around to keep mice away (which I think a clean house does better than a cat...but redundancy in worthwhile efforts is not a bad thing), and as an occasional stress reliever and to teach the kids about responsability. But I am more of a dog person. Not the pathetic-excuse-for-animal dogs like Pit Bulls or Rottweilers. I am the Shepherd or Lab type. The good family dogs. The dogs I like are members of the family.
But sometimes I get to liking a cat. The brown/black one below, her name is Cali, short for California, ended up on the like list just for being around so long. I have been with my wife for 13 years and that cat preceded me with her like two years. So she is like 15 years old.
We have been through other cats...5 at least...and the only one of those I really liked was one that had real cool colors that blended into the desert out here very well.
Then there is the new one that my kids named Ninja for obvious reasons. I call him fearless. When they brought this cat home, I was thinking "F___! Not another one!" That attitude lasted all of a week. The cat was very timid when they brought it home. And I found it to be another one that would not come to bond and would end up running away like a lot of the others did to become Coyote chow.
But this one ended up on the like list quickly. Did I mention that Cali hates every other cat on Earth? Yeah, she hates Fearless as well.
This is where my like for Fearless comes in. Despite any amount of hissing, spitting, and batting that Cali does (she comes short of drawing blood), Cali is Fearless's favorite playtoy. And the harder Cali fights to get away, the harder Fearless fights to play with her. All the other cats we had ran from Cali and were afraid of her. It can be pretty funny to watch Fearless jump on Cali's head while Cali is Hissing and spitting at him. And this has been going on since fearless got used to the surroundings when he was only like 2 months old at the most. Sometimes when we open the door, he will run out and stand like a guard dog surveying the area. But he is not a runner, so we are easily able to get him back into the house and safe from the Coyotes. That was the biggest problem we had with previous cats. They would run out when we opened doors and then run off so that we could not bring them in and that would be the last we would see of them.
