Yep. I think this thread was originally intended to be pics of family, friends, and pets. At least the title certainly implies that.

Watch a documentary called "The Way We Get By." Has nothing to do with pets, but one man's story in particular involves what we're discussing. Plus it's just a great doc.

I do think you're not looking at the word for all it's meanings though. Call a K9 cops dog his pet and see what they say to you.

With the exception of a K9 cop (which I doubt the OP was thinking of), I still think the terms "partner" and "best friend" if applied to pets has a lonely/empty connotation.
