Seems to be a production issue... so I would not expect it to be replaced. You could possibly get a full refund, but also possible they would only offer a refund less shipping since it's "how the figure is supposed to be".

With the number of broken pistons reported here it's no wonder they are swamped; they really should have opted for foam like they did with Grievous. Or have something specifically molded in the plastic tray to keep the pistons from breaking off.

Yeah, getting the clamshell apart put alot of undue strain on those elbows. Diecut foam, as I mentioned in an earlier post would have been a much better choice and have zero impact on the fragile pistons

I know the production numbers for figures is rarely known and I'm sure there are "extras" specifically for damage or replacement issues. With all of the problems this piece has had, what are the chances that SS runs out of stock a lot quicker than normal because they may be parting out so many?

For those of you who are getting replacement arms, is it because of the thumb issues or because the arm is in fact broken. Mine had the same thumb issue everyone else has so just curious if SSC it just replacing the whole arm to fix the issue. Thanks

On mine, the inner piston was broken and the pinky fell off.

I have been trying to contact Sideshow via live chat to see if they can move up my last payment on C-3PO...but I can't see to get anyone.

Here's a comment from Sideshow's Facebook page about the hand issue I just saw:

COMMENT FROMC-3PO BUYER:
Sideshow Collectibles - I just received my 1/6 c-3PO figure and I am wondering if you will be offering replacement arms? As you know by now all the 3pos have the thumbs misaligned so they look like a fifth finger rather than a thumb. Many customers have contacted you by email about this but no one has received a response. At over $220 per figure we expect better quality control and fixes when problems occur.

SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES RESPONDS:
Hey Laurel, thanks for the comment and feedback! C-3PO was originally pictured with different hands in a few prototype images on our blog. As you probably know, early prototypes can differ from the final production piece. We always keep the design as faithful to the character as we can, but in order to do that, sometimes changes are made during the creative process.
Production on this version of C-3PO has been completed, and he’s currently making his way to moisture farms across the galaxy. And you never know, someday there may be another release of the famous protocol droid. Possibly from a different film with the appropriate changes or modifications to his design. Thanks for your comment, and we hope that we shed some light on the situation. Cheers!

So their answer is "you can buy another if we make one". Fk you Sideshow. Returning mine and moving to Hot Toys.

So apparently the hands were designed to look terrible. Good to know.

So... are they saying... fingers as thumbs is supposed to be ANH accurate?

That's the thumb issue. What can they say re the pistons? It was a production change?

No excuse for that one.

Nah, they're saying that they can't always achieve the desired accuracy in their production pieces.

It is annoying when a company tries to be clever and messes up an otherwise perfectly good figure. But Sideshow aren't alone there. Darth Vader's electronics from HT, BTS GoD Bruce Lee's stupid eye system and rubber body from Enterbay... even HT's DX line saw decent sculpts deformed by the PERS.

Sigh. Tired of hating on Sideshow, but they make it so damn easy to do so!

Yeah it's a shame sometimes all the time and effort that goes into producing these figures, and in the end there's some goofy or idiotic mistake that just makes the whole thing a completely frustrating experience for customers.

Too bad on this one because overall it really is a great figure.

If it weren't for the thumbs, all people would have to complain about is the choco-weathering and maybe some nasty flashing. We could all relax and go back to the "Tama vs SS" debate.

I too sent an email days ago to Sideshow with no response regarding the thumbs. I just remembered they previewed the 4lom figure recently. Are they suggesting we drop another $250 for another engineering/manufacturing error with that one? They almost can't fix that one less we all cry foul. I have no faith in their in house products any longer. Reissues with less packins, high prices, low quality control, I am disappointed in them.

I wonder how many desks that response had to cross before it was released? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. In the future I'll hold out for HT releases or do without the figure.

That must the standard bulk release for all inquiries about the hands because I just received it too from Customer Support via Twitter.

So basically they acknowledge there's a mistake but aren't doing anything about it. Pretty crappy situation. I still have yet to receive a response from the email I sent about the broken piston on mine either.

If I had the scratch to spend on this guy, I'd buy it up regardless of it having feet for hands. Figure looks pretty awesome despite its opposable issues. If it were me, I'd just break the dang thumbs off and reglue them. Figure looks rad otherwise.
