This is your Probe Droid on a black rod. This is your Probe Droid on a clear rod. Any Questions? :)

WOW...that really is an impressive difference...I don't get how the figure ended up with a black rod...even if as Alex says for durability over the clear...but at least PAINT IT WHITE !!!!

I wonder if the Sidshow staffers have their own private forum to discuss fans. They might be saying something like, "I can understand someone wanting a new rod, but can't they just finally STFU about it now?" ;)

White sounds great until you realize that dark colored shelving/cabinets are far more popular and the white would stick out like, well, a white rod. I can only imagine the outcry if it had been white. For $250 they should have included an entire Crayola assortment of rods and tubes to make everyone happy. At least the people who don't post about it anyway.

Clear would definitely have been the safe bet. Metal is stronger, but I have to question the mechanical experience of whomever made the decision that it was necessary for this item.

To me with the droid being black the black rod makes it look like its a piece of it and it looks bad. At least with the clear you just see the droid and no "weird" looking part going straight down.

The black rod makes it look like the Probe Droid is the one getting "probed." :lol

I'm sure that can't be too far from the truth. :lol

I prefer black.

Yeah, to me there's two ways to display the probe droid:

- "studio scale model" look with black base only (black rod is better suited, because the models had solid black rods mostly.)
- "movie scene reenactment" look with snowy base (clear rod is obviously better suited.)

Yup. I'm into the studio shooting model look, where the rod would have been black to remove later. I know some people like recreating scenes and dio's which is completely cool, but not for me.

I've mentioned it previously, but I'm mostly indifferent on the color, but leaning toward black if I were to actually buy this guy (and not suspend him from monofilament). A hollow black tube would also be a convenient way to run wire into the figure to replace the need for batteries.

Am still waiting for mine to arrive at the local shop where I have already placed a deposit.

Has been a long wait....

I haven't even been invoiced yet...and then it is usually a few weeks...I am still waiting on Fives and Echo and we are almost at the 2 month point...USH may be the cheapest online place for figures, but they are the last place to ever get product...

Another happy owner, didn't feel as cheap and thin as I expected. But my light did come unglued and doesn't quite look right when lit. Also the inside of the top has a spiderweb of glue strands here and there. Factory guy must have been tired that day. Still it looks great.
