got mine today .. great item .. but i havent found the soundbutton yet .. oO

edit: found it.. [emoji1]

i think i will get a acryl stab

Two questions:
1. Does the top of the lower section come off for access to the battery?

2. Does anyone have an extra clear acrylic rod they got from that guy on eBay selling 5 at a time that they don't want?

WOW....that did not take long....glad I take my batteries out shortly after arrival.

Can anyone tell me how to open up the body? The instructions just show that you're supposed to lift the 'lid' straight up but I feel like I'm about to break it when I do as it just refuses to separate. I've also tried rotating the lid but it doesn't seem to rotate either.

Hmm. Maybe it's time to take the batteries out of mine. That's like an advertisement for Pixel. Speaking of which, how's progress going on that front?

Same question here. Saw that picture and pulled the batteries out of the top part without problem, but cant get the bottom part open.

Remove the top head part, put a few fingers inside and pull the top cover off the bottom body. It won't break, but don't force it, work your way around if you have to.

Thanks for posting this. Just took mine out today and suggest everyone do the same if they're worried about this. Sound battery was fine but took it out anyway and used the battery to replace the dead one in my Apple TV remote.

Mine were ok but I could see where they would soon start to leak on two of them. Seems like a faulty batch of batteries.

I never planned on having batteries in this thing anyway so may as we'll remove them now. Batteries are for chumps. ;)

Yeah I picked him up in August, which isn't that long ago. I'll probably remove the R2 ones at some point when I've finished having my daily fun with him.

A question about the battery leakage issue - do they still work if they are leaking? My probot's light/sound still works fine and I don't want to break this thing open unless I have to. The lower battery sounds like it's really hard to get to.

They both worked fine. Just decided to check them out and found one leaking. The bottom battery isn't that hard to get to if you follow Pixel's instructions for separating the bottom--seemed impossible without doing that.

Thanks, pixelpiper, that did the trick. All these posts about bad batteries got me paranoid so I took them out even though I hadn't even removed the plastic tabs yet. They were still fine but I left them out to avoid the unnecessary risk.

Thanks to everyone who ID'ed the battery issue. Took mine out just in time. One is a little wet around the ring (and some smeared blue) and a second one looks like it's nearly wet too. I think if it was in another week or so it would have leaked.

Totally paranoid about the batteries SSC uses now - need to check my IG-88, which has the same type in the head.

Is the big (lower) battery okay or should that be removed too? At least you can check it more easily.

Given the number of batteries that are going, I would say everyone should swap them out, regardless of whether they've started to go or not.

I also removed the batteries, all 4 of them - they are in good shape though. The large one is similar with the battery that came with the EFX TIE Fighter studio scale. The other 3 I am using now in my laser pointer.

Yeah, I think I'm going to buy some major brand batteries and install those. These no-name cheapo batteries I guess tick the box for Sideshow but this situation could have been a real nightmare for both customers - and them. Imagine dozens of people contacting Sideshow at roughly the same time saying acid had leaked throughout the interior of their probe droid just 2 months after purchase. In a related note, my SSC R2D2's batteries (same type, though apparently different manufacturer) have died after only about a week of very light usage.
