Other than the lack of snow base, is there any diference between V1 and V2?

Having never seen the original in hand, I couldn't say. However, I found it curious and a little confusing that there is an 'on/off' switch in the main base that does not actually have switch in it. I assume it was a feature from the original mold that SS removed in the updated version.

Just putting out a feeler here. Way back when I considered a battery replacement module for the Probe Droid but there was just no great way to make the sound effects easily triggered in a self-installable product. It ended up being just another example where having sounds created by some other device would work infinitely better. I built a few prototype sound effects boxes using all kinds of different parts and the latest is below - sorry, using R2 for the video instead of the Probe Droid. :)

While I can custom-make an unlimited number of these things, the parts cost and time it takes me to put everything together makes it a prohibitive endeavor. Honestly, I'd have to sell them for $250 to just break even factoring time. I'd like to design a new integrated board that will make final assembly super quick, add more features and produce a much smaller finished size.

Here's the interest thread I just started. No commitment needed, just testing the waters. https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/...-fx-box-figures-talk-usb-microsd-wav-mp3.html

wow, very cool and amazing job.

Sorry, but you can get the same effect with those mini Bluetooth speakers

Since I'm too busy to try this , maybe you guys can try this experiment .
Buy those cheap mini speakers with Bluetooth sold by Chinese sellers on ebay.

Then maybe gutting those mini speaker devices could fit inside a R2, probe droid, a figure, display stand, base, etc. or even hide the speaker itself behind displayed figures. And just use your phone/tablet to stream the audio.

should be a fun project but not sure of the difficulty would be by taking them apart and doing the rewire and fitting.

You could always just also make the sounds yourself verbally and save $800 on a phone and $10 on the bluetooth module (and wiring work with speakers).

but I'm pretty sure the majority of people here have a smart phone, mp3 player or/and a tablet with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi capabilities
just get a $20.00 Bluetooth speaker, hide it behind some figures or disguise it, and bam, your figures have sound effects.

I'm just trying to help the community with alternate ideas

Is there a difference in the original run probe and the new one other than the hoth base?

The first run lots of people were reporting leaky batteries--it's one thing if it's a year or two later but with the probe droid it seemed like it was after just a few months.

Thanks for the info ton ton. I just purchased a first run and just emailed the seller to see if they checked the batteries/lights/sound. Hope its all good, thanks!

My advice is to verify all the batteries inside your collectibles. No matter if cheap cell ones or larger AA or AAA - they can all leak. If you want batteries inside your collectibles use high quality ones: for AA/AAA try Duracell, Energizer or Varta, for cell ones try Renata (also used by Rolex). Make a simple list with the expiring dates of the batteries from your collectibles and replace them in time.

This one hopefully doesn't have batteries pre-installed.

They are pre-installed. You have to pull out a plastic tab in both the head (light) and body (sound chip) for them to work.

I really like the light and sound effects on this guy. He is really impressive on my desk. This is truly one of the better design feats of SSC 1/6th dept.
