Congrats! Thanks for the review also! :duff

I do wish this guy came with a sound chip in addition to the lights. It sounds stupid, but I think I would have liked that.

I would have liked that as well.

Cool video, Amber, Congrats! :duff

A couple of quick shots. I agree with what's been said before. Excellent looking fiure, awesome little accessories, but very fragile.

I cannot wait for Thursday! :impatient:

Congrats and thanks for the cool pics! :duff

Reported!

:lol

So, let's say someone does fit a sound module inside this guy? Then what? ;) Can't wait to get mine and hopefully take it apart without breaking anything. A custom module could have fit into this R2 (easily) if the whole thing had been designed with that intention, but trying to fit an aftermarket/generic module in there now may be tough - but I'm going to try anyway.

Bring it!

Thank you!

Here's a few more but I missed the light so tomorrow will be better...

QUICK REVIEW:

1. SEAM - its dark here and light is gone but I really have to look to find it on mine. Not a problem here.

2. FRAGILE - nerve-racking to hold and fiddle around with without that lightsaber tool. Pushing open doors on the head -- for the telescoping action -- will make you sweat. If you have fat fingers you are dead.

3. LOOSENESS - mine anyway, the feet are solid and the legs are solid and hold their poses leaning forward or back. Projector lenses are stiff but all move. All the doors remain closed which is great -- except the only loosey-goosey thing on mine is the lower blue arm (those things that R2 never used). If I tip the figure over, that arm swings open. But everything else is good so far. Wheels roll well, no sticking. The third leg pops in and out easily.

4. OPENING HEAD - you need to hold the lower swivel portion while twisting the head off. Just remember that, it won't make sense until you have it. Otherwise you will find yourself jut turning and turning and turning. It is not explained well in the instructions.

5. PERISCOPE ITEMS - they scare me. Will only play with them once. They pull out father then shown, at least the periscope did, but they are very loose and you have to twist and turn to make them hold position. A little bump will likely make them drop.

6. THE LIGHTS - love them! They blink and move and change colors and operate via touch. Best gimmick on the figure!!! Although, you will find when playing with it that you keep turning on and off the lights while working. So maybe leave them off until ready.

7. THE LOOK - the detail is sharp, the paintwork (at night) looks great. The weathering looks good, he's definitely dirty but not muddy in places, just dirty overall. The "scratch" along the side of the center eye doesn't bother me -- it's really small in hand. I wish the blue paint was a little more vivid and metallic. I also wish the little brass tubes on his feet were real tubing and not very brittle plastic.

Overall: Love it so far. Eager to see it in daylight. Sitting in front of me on my desk its a little R2 unit. What's not to love?
Its accurate, its scaled, its brittle, its does everything, and it lights up. :yess:

Congrats man! Great review, and glad to see you're happy with R2

Here's a crappy iphone pic of mine.

You know there has to be at least a few crappy iphone pics in here so here's my contribution.

NOT crappy I say! :lecture

Luke looks great there and more importantly, they look great together. Luke and the little guy reunited at last! In fact the Leia holo looks more in scale (even though it's not) when Luke is with it. Thanks Amber.

My order just arrived. I always get nervous when it comes to opening SS deliveries. There's always some defect when I order direct, plus I also hate the extra $40 for brokerage/custom fees.

Sounds delicate like their IG-88.

That's a great way to describe it, very similar to IG-88. Without that sharp sucker jabbing your thumb.

Also, for those old enough, R2 totally reminds me of that Airfix model I had as a kid. Man, I loved that thing. :lol Definitely nostalgia with this piece.

UPDATE: This little guy looks even better in daylight. Can't wait for other' pics.

I'd rep this if it wasn't for your anti-blue agenda :p

:lol

Thanks for the review, WG! It's a shame it's so fragile and that the blue arm is loose, but I'm glad the feet are tight. That's what I was fearing most, that the feet would be loose and he'd constantly been falling over.

Don't worry about the loose blue arms, it's likely just on mine. There's so many working parts that's its likely something will be loose, but a little superglue in the right spot will fix it... or perhaps just a little blast of heat from the hairblower. I always let my figures sit a few days, sometimes things like this just.... go away.

Congrats! Thanks for the review also! :duff

Just opened mine up and checked it over. It's a really nice figure set. The best R2 yet. Its not a rough and tumble figure like Hasbro's. Definitely a shelf display figure. I find it to be kind of fragile. I tried to open the life scanner panel and the scanner wouldn't come out. I finally got it out and then couldn't get it back in. My blue arms are loose too. I find it funny that the some of the bells and whistles on this figure are loose and then the hologram of Leia is extremely difficult to attach to the table. In the end I love the way the figure looks, but find it very delicate. To the point of getting the sweats poseing it. Wor-gar is right... if you have big or fat fingers your life with this droid is going to be hell. :)

As for this product's price I think $80-100 would have been a fairer price range. But I still like what sideshow offered.

I wonder when mine will be shipped? I would think some time next week??

We will begin processing all orders for R2-D2 Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure (2172) on Thursday, February 5, 2015. We ask that you have the funds available on your credit card by this date to ensure the successful processing and shipment of your order. Please review your shipping address and payment information (shown below) at this time to be sure they are correct.

Ah, so the life scanner is built in? I thought it was a separate piece that you attached when you opened the panel.

Too bad about the blue arms being loose. I think someone else besides Wor Gar also reported those being loose.

Thanks for your review, Weezer!
