Sideshow 1/6 R2-D2

The Medi R2 is a nice little figure, so pity about the scale.

I don't know. I like lurking here & checking out the pics, but the SSC figure is disappointing as far I'm concerned. All the 'flimsy / cheap feeling / plastic-y' posts I've read just confirm what I've been curious about. This ain't the droid I'm looking for.

I'm as picky as hell (stupid picky sometimes) but I feel like people need their heads examined with the way they're going on about this fig.

I couldn't care less if it feels like a brick when you pick it up or is so durable I can throw it against the wall or is made of pewter and pearl - all I care about is how it looks on the shelf and posed with the lights on, this R2 looks pretty damn great (and can look even more damn great with some isopropyl to tweak the weathering.) That said... it's a little too small.

I've been busy with the Jabba throne room but I'll be breaking out the Tama 3PO in the next few days to take some pics with this guy (and to have Ree Yees grab 3PO.)

It looks great when you stand it next to a Hasbro or Kenner 3 3/4 C-3PO, yeah.

Another 3-5 years before HT gets to those outfits.

The customizer pieces alone would be more than the roughly $200 incl shipping I paid.

Just got mine today! I don't mind it being flimsy plastic. Which it is. I think my bigger issue is with the uncertainty I have in opening and closing the panels.

I feel like every panel opens a different way so I'm never sure if I'm going to break it because I'm forcing something too much in a way not intended.

For instance, it's a major accomplishment that sideshow was able to get the lightsaber hatch to open on a press and slide just like I remember from the movie. But it makes getting the lightsaber tool in and out very difficult.

And none of the other panels on the dome open that way so there's always a minute to figure out how to open something and do it carefully. These hinges are all so tiny and I imagine they will all break with age.

I feel like sideshow way over-engineered these details to be ultra-accurate and yet overlooked the basic dimensions and scaled him slightly too small. Too much focus on the details and not enough stepping back to see the full figure in a line up against other characters.

I'm happy with what I got but I would've paid the same or more had they gotten the scale, the paint and sound with the lights perfect and dropped all the gimmicks, panels and accessories. But that's just me.

Regardless, I can't wait to see how a Hot Toys R2 stacks up to this in a few years.

I got mine today, He looks awesome on display with 3po but good lord he's flimsy, i knew it going in but you don't imagine how much. either way he won't be getting messed with much so im happy.

Here he is with 3po and IMO if you were to have just one SW display, these two are it, just so iconic
