Yeah, the slight undersize of the SSC R2 is what held me back in buying the R5 and black droids but overall I never get the complaints about this R2 - it's a very nice figure on display with a dome sculpt that's more accurate than the HT version. The SSC dome isn't real metal (and the HT metal dome looks incredible, even if the sculpt's off) but with a light wipe of Isopropyl - or a rub with 000 steel wool, which even gives a subtle steel swirl patterning - it looks great.

I guess I got lucky on my SSC R2 - the joints were tight and there's only one panel that's a little loose - they pretty much all stay in place when it's tilted forward.

I'll probably still get the hot toys r2. But if I can find a good price on this one I'm gonna go for it.

If the actual Hot Toys one comes out anything like the prototype pictures, it really makes the Sideshow one look like a cheap toy.

Congrats on the R2 acquisition, Craig.

I highly recommend the custom desert display for the droids from Cocolocoboy. It really makes for an elegant display.

I respectfully disagree. The sideshow one has the weight of a cheap toy, but doesn't look like one at all on the shelf. Also, if it's anything like other HT Star Wars products, the light and sound features are going to be near impossible to get to and use. I don't use most of the SSC R2's accessories, but the lightup feature is easily accessible, and I love the table. I can look at this all day (crappy pic)

Nice pics!

I forgot that this comes with the hologram Leia and table!

I've had mine sealed in the box. Never opened it because I was hoping Tamashii would get around to making one.

If anyone is interested, drop me a PM. Selling at a loss.

Never got the convention exclusive version of this or the Imperial versions of both R2 and R4, so I'm hoping HT's reveal will have people selling those on the cheap :lol

Whatever you say Sparky...

The visible seams and satin finish on the SS dome and average paint app aren't apparent in those low-light pics though. It's a good set for the price though, and the HT is too expensive for what it is... accuracy aside, both have their issues.

Shine on the dome....ok, I'll give you that. But there's nothing about the HT that makes me go "wow, gotta have it" (over SS).

To each his own.

This is one of those cases where I definitely don't think the HT version is amazing enough AT ALL to justify the price hike and lack of accessories. I really love my SS R2 all around, and I'm generally quite "meh" about Sideshow stuff to be honest. Now Threepio... he might be worth an upgrade. We'll see.

The dome has been my peeve since day one, both the shine and the seam. Some examples were worse than others when it comes to the seam and mine was a bad one. I saw one boardie successfully get a replacement dome based on the pics he provided to SS. Mine was equally as bad, but all I got from them a day later was "they're all like that" :slap

The SS has a few other build faults, but they're not visible so they don't bother me. I suppose if I were smart I'd simply sand back the seam and repaint it with a chrome finish. Jamesthecat did a good job on getting a chrome look to the dome:

The Hot Toys version looks (and problably feels) alot better then the Sideshow version. I'm still quite happy with him, and the lightning features are very easy to use, but he just looks a bit off, and he feels very very cheap and flimsy in hand (i have had a lot of trouble with the life scanner). Hot Toys BB8 is atleast twice his weight. Just purchased R2 before Hot Toys announced theirs.. Ah well, the table with light up feature will work with the Hot Toys version aswell!
