Comparing a half scale bust with 1/5 statue is pointless.

Then throwing in a 2 grand 1/3 scale statue is meaningless.

Throw up some comparisons to Hottoys if anything, at least they are around the same scale and price point.

How about 1/6 statues then? Any of you guys familiar with the works of L.W. Studios?
Here's what they do: https://www.lw-studio.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=20_26

Ok so thats a narin kit that shipped to the US costs about 360 bucks then you have to assemble and paint it. If your gonna pay someone to pay it for you whats that another couple hundred? Its still not really a fair comparison. maybe if you compare just the sculpt alone fine but SSC is mass producing an item where that is paying a person to paint you a statue.

Those are already painted and assembled. Read the descriptions.:slap

EDIT: Also, quoted from the SS product page - "..and is individually painted and finished, each with its own unique quality and detail that is the trademark of a handcrafted Sideshow Collectibles product.". So let's not talk about 'Mass Produced.
Let's take a finished and shipped product - say $360 dlvd. Sideshow's is $300+shipping, say $320. So because SS sells it for $40 less, it allows them to deliver a product which indeed looks like mass produced? I think not.

well that guy is recasting Narin's sculpt then...

I would still compare this more to paying for a commissioned paint job.

As for SSC tagline, it is in many ways what they say but it is still on a large scale. So they do not have the luxury to put in as much as the guy you pay to paint one thing.

EDIT: just read the info on the classic pred on this guys site and he even calls these commissioned paint jobs so...

I also dont see his price listed

My point was it doesn't look like the Pred i know and love.
Price and scale aside i don't like it one bit.

I still don't think one statue has come close to the original unmasked Pred look yet, even the cinemaquette was Wangs ideal predator and not exactly like the movie.

The LSB is cool i may even pick it up down the line so i can display with with the statue ( i think this will look awesome ) but i don't like the head tilt very much and even the paint on this was also really lacking especially on the mouth area.

I doubt we'll ever see a perfect unmasked Pred :) ( of course the Maquette and the 1/1 are pretty much there :D )

Comparing it to a kit is ok but if you compare it to the work of Narin you are talking $300 for the kit alone and then having it painted and assembled by someone as talented as Joe Dunaway just further increases the price.

We are talking about a $300 pre-painted statue here and the only real comparison out there is Hot Toys and that isn't ideal as those are action figures and not statues.

I'm really excited to see mine now, so i can see what i think of the paints in hand and to see if i am satisfied or not :D

Exactly agreed the kits are an unfair comparison and would run you WAY more to get it professionally painted.

Also agree about there being no unmasked sculpt that is dead on to the movie yet. Maybe one day...

To all those who say that kits will cost you more to paint - You don't get it! The products in that link are.... Here, I will type it slow, so you can understand:
Already assembled AND painted.

Empir3 - You have to login to see prices. On predators, they range from 150 to 550 for a finished product.

Another point I want to make - When I am paying 350 for a piece, it doesn't matter that it is sub-par because "..its not a kit..". It still doesn't make me feel better, especially when I can get a non sub-par kit for same price or even cheaper. That is my point.

I was wondering why they were still talking about the painting process. :lol

Okay guys. I saw this statue in person today and here is my take.....

Although there were a lot of complaints about the paint job, it did not seems as bad as it looked. His head needs to have more reddish brown cause it is too dark. To me that is easy to fix. The netting is sloppy but can be fixed. The armor needs a drybrush of lighter silver. The sculpt was great and the pose is okay. It is a great size but you know what it was my biggest pet peeve? The legs....

His legs are too skinny. That bothered me most. My friend who received the statue today, had also the 1/4 scale Neca Predator and it looks way better proportion wise. Because it is not a statue I have some reservations about getting one but it is by far better looking than predator statue.

It is still a beautiful piece and with improvements on the paint job, it will look great. I understand why one would send it back but if you decide to keep it, I still think that it looks great.....

Just my two cents

Cheers

Bear

Ok my point is they are purely paying for paint with that site plus the cost to cast the item. They did not have to pay someone to sculpt it because they stole the damn sculpt. and here is a quote from the site itself :

Super Fast: We know that no one want to wait for long time for dream comes true. We will finish the painting in 2 weeks (14 working days, we will negotiate with you if the kit is too complicated to finish) after we get the kit.

So basically they are a commissioned painting operation that does not equate to what SSC is. Also i would love to see what one of these look like in hand from a buyer not just their proto pics. The paint job is pretty good but lacking in like the chest area for instance.

Have you used these guys before? I'm always weary about these guys selling pre-paints, i always think the product you will receive will be the same as what you see on the pics...?

Also are these all recasts?

Yea those are all Narin kits so i would assume yes they are all recasted or they bought ALOT from narin over the years...

I did see one in person at swap show, that how I know about the site, and it was OUTSTANDING.
Me and hubby are big Sideshow fans, and have quite a bit of their products, including dioramas, PF, 1/6 SW, and even the 1:1 Predator bust, so I am not knocking them down or trashing them in general.
What I am trying to say is, that if one is after a great looking predator statue, Sideshow is not the bottom line. We do have great alternatives out there, for good prices, and if I do have a great displayable piece of a character I love, I don't care if it's from SS, a kit, a recast, or a custom bash. Now, as far as this piece goes, from what I have seen so far, judging from the posted pictures - I'd rather have a great recast for the same price.

Matbe you can put the Ex sticker over that ugly head Master. :rotfle

Nah man at first I just called SS because I thought they sent me a regular by mistake. Then cc told me she could sent me an EX sticker so why not? Afterall it is an EX and my box was missing the sticker. I'm going to stick it to the box myself! :D

Agreed. I'd just like to have an exact replica of that original mug. Why is it so hard to recreate? It's a rhetorical question. Don't anyone bother answering. Not looking for an answer. :)

Good question. Try replicate it and let us know how it goes. :D

Here's a better look.

Whoa! Never said I'd be the one to even attempt to replicate it. I don't have any skill there. Wouldn't even know where to begin. I'm a retail customer so I'm stuck with what they give us. Never thought about trying out my own creative abilities. Maybe one day...

^ Oh my! Yet again I am awed at how brilliant that design and paint job are! He is so ugly, yet so beautiful.... A true masterpiece of a designing genius.
