Sideshow Collectibles Spooktacular 2011! October 24th – 31st

I like this year's kit. The mug, calendar and plush sell it for me. Now how fun Spook will be this year remains to be seen. I've been really disappointed in them the last couple of years.

Yeah, while I'm still hesitant about participating after last year's Spookfailure, I'll still be getting the kit for Mort.

I am nervous about this year too. I have a feeling it wont change from what last years was like. I will give it a day or two and if it feels as bad as last spook, I'll just do my best to hang with my buddies and forget spook exists.

I know im late to this, but last year I just really gave up. Entered every contest and didnt win anything. So this year I'll randomly pop in and participate here and there.

It's not really about winning. I enter every contest they put up and I've never ever won any of them. I have been lucky with give-aways in chat. But they don't make spook for me. Being able to joke around with my buddies in chat, that is priceless for me.

BUT, I can remember how frigging awesome spook was 2 years ago. The scavenger hunts were brilliant! I didn't want/need a lot of the stuff going up, but it was still fun to try and find them. I really missed that last year.

Let me restate that. This year I am not planning on winning anything like past Spooks. I'm getting myself in the frame of mind to not go hardcore for the contests and just try to enjoy the chat.

Of course I'd love to win something.

Everyone think this years spook kit will be a sellout?

The only thing I hope for is that Mort is around 12-14" otherwise I will be a bit disappointed if we get it and he's like 5".

I don't expect Mort to be that big considering the cost of the kit. Plushies aren't exactly cheap...I would expect him to be the size of the vinyl piece. I am not feeling the orange mug...I want shots of it in blue. Get paid Friday so not planning to order until then, hopefully there is enough where it doesn't sell out Thursday

Huh, not sure how I feel about the mug. Need to see it in person I suppose. And it also comes in blue..man, I need a teaser of the color blue so I know what the heck I need to rush order. This kit = awesome. And the mug is 18 ounces, I like that.
Yeah, I'm thinking that the plush will be quite small. I got Scott Pilgrim plushies and they are small, and completely not worth having. So I am hoping it will be different with Mort.

If we are lucky the plush will be at least as big as the vinyl pieces but I'm starting to think that for the cost it'll probably be about Beanie Baby sized. According to the kit promo, the mugs will be randomly sent so I don't think when you order has much to do with which you get. I'm not feeling the orange (even though it is Halloween colors) so I hope it's better in Blue...

Yeah, I had just noticed and was going to edit my post. Ugh, that sucks...you should be able to choose. If it's light blue though, I will be mad.

Regarding contests through Facebook/Twitter during Spooktacular, just wanted to throw out some interesting numbers for y'all...

2010 - Spooktacular

Over 200 individual people walked away with prizes through Chat, site giveaways, photo contests (pumpkin, costume, etc.) Facebook/Twitter. Of those 200+ people only about 28 were specific to Facebook/Twitter. Soooo, I'm not sure why there's a thought that almost all giveaways occurred through Facebook and Twitter or rather a huge shift to those avenues.

So, that all said...can't wait to see all your shiny faces (or rather handles/names) during this years Spooktacular. Should be lots of fun!

My disappointment was more with the "element" that those new venues brought in. We got some great new freaks, but the rotten ones were rotten to the core.

That and Sideshow kept letting people on Facebook and Twitter know when contests were going on in chat. When true Sideshow freaks were sitting in there hour after hour, and got bombarded by people who wanted freebies, and then would leave right after the freebie was given away. I think that's what we didn't like so much...If there is going to be a chat giveaway, then let the people already in chat work for the win.

I'd imagine those numbers could be skewed a bit since a lot of contests were hinted at through Facebook/Twitter to direct you to chat or the service gave you a secret word that you had to say in chat. We chat vets have just been spoiled in the past with how many giveaways there once were 100% in chat with no warning anywhere else.

I honestly don't mind as much this year because I have a smartphone now and will be prepared with notifications.

You guys had me worried about the orange color of the mug, but now that I have seen it, I would be happy with either blue or orange. At the very least, I will be able to see it better, and therefore avoid spills, during the wee dark hours of Spook.
