Anyone brave modding the awful looking hood fur on Han's hood yet?

If you pull all of the parka fur out it can be styled a bit more and looks (somewhat) better. Some of it is jammed between the head and the hat.

You're right it does help a little but my issue with it is that it swirls from one side to another like a bad comb-over. I think a better solution on SSC's part would have been to split it in two down the middle so that the left side parted to the left and the right side parted to the right.

I want to do a Bespin Han but all this talk of different bodies and still making adjustments its getting annoying. I thought just using a standard TT would be a solution, now I'm seeing that the Pro will work better and then there is too many different opinions on what's the best version of the Pro body and now I'm seeing that the old SS Bespin boots aren't the best :gah:

What's the best way to do a good Bespin bash then? :panic:

I just use the bodies I have available. I just pulled a cloned TT I had in the parts bin and did the Han Bespin and it looks great. Don't get too hung up on the choice of body. Most of them will look great - I've even used the later Hasbro bodies (with a few parts dremeled) and they've looked fine. The only issue is that Han Bespin needs a neck, so that means neck adapter or body with molded neck. Neck adapter and you get a line if the shirt is a bit open like Han's is.

Just started messing around with rabbit fur. It's gonna make a huge difference when i actually do it. Looks so much better. Feels like it's looking more like the prototype.

The problem I see is the hood fits on so tightly. So I'm not sure how to actually mod it without it tearing the fur off each time I pull the hood on or off. Right now I just have a strip of fur wrapped around the head.

That actually looks pretty good!

One thing I tried was making all the fur go in one direction so it looks like the wind's blowing it that way. It sorta helps with the Phyllis Diller look without too much effort.

The gauntlets really bug me though. They seem so minor yet I think making them fabric would have been a good idea.

No offense but honestly the rabbit fur makes it look like Phyllis Diller. :lol

That's a great start! How hard was it to remove the stock fur? One thing you may want to try is keeping the top button open. I noticed in many ESB photos that the top of the parka isn't as tight as SSC made it and wrapping the inner scarf around the face and using the outer scarf to tighten the parka around the neck works really well and is pretty screen accurate. I've attached a pic of my Han and some of the screen grabs I've been looking at when futzing (still need to get that outer scarf tied better).

^^thanks for the tip, I'll try it out. Top button is actually already unbuttoned, and I removed the Bespin vest, but I'll try opening up the jacket even more and pulling the scarf up a bit.

Haven't removed any fur, only un-boxed the figure a couple hours ago and have mainly been dealing with body swapping back and forth with the Luke figure. Put Han on the 1.1 and Luke is on the 1.0 that came with Han. In-hand the quality of the fur is clearly better than what came with Han, it has a range of colors that aren't picked up with the lighting I have to work with.

Here's the size piece I'm working with (about 4 inches by 1 inch), I cut a rough looking piece from the pelt for messing around with. And here's a shot that shows the difference in texture between real fur and what sideshow gave us.

Great start TonTon. But I never thought the fur in the movie was that overly exaggerated . I think you got something there , but did you try to smooth the large edges out maybe use some dampness to even the edges out and tweak the corners so they push forward a little more and so much as out.

I think that's what it needs to give it more like a wind pushing against the hood's fur look like the photos above

That's what I tried it doesn't look bad pushing the fur forward. In person IMO it gives the sculpt more depth

I'll either do some trimming or see if wetting it allows me to sculpt it a bit. Another option is folding the fur which will make the fur fuller but with the two sides of the hide it might be too thick to fit into the hood.
I think the production sideshow fur will always have the advantage of being more durable and comb-able/sculpt-able since it's rougher and thicker. Basically I'll try to get it to look as close to the prototype as possible.

EDIT: just removed one of the pics when I saw how pixelated it is on the computer.

Received mine.

Has anyone spoken about the snow base? I am happy that this is a difference sculpt from the Hoth Luke set.

It had to be done:

No more Imperial disguise for Han. Kaustic Plastik's Randy Couture's taken on that duty...

That it stinks?

Just joking, but it does stink. Though the smell does gradually fade away.

The base was the last thing I noticed after spending so much time on the figures. It was a nice surprise to realize it was a different sculpt. I just assumed it was the same, but missing the extra piece of snowy rock.
