I never understand buying according to edition size.

It's a shame more people don't let love of the piece dictate what they spend their money on.

I used to think the same too, but after actually reading some of the replies, in the Darth Talon thread, I can understand some people who wouldn't mind waiting a little longer on a piece that has a higher edition size since it means they can probably get one for a cheaper price a little later on especially when someone is on a tighter budget than others

Again, if you're talking about the people who buy things they don't really like because there was only a handful of them made then I agree that it doesn't make sense. But if something is overproduced it can mean that you can get it for a huge discount, and if it's produced in very small numbers it can mean that you'll end up paying considerably over retail a while after its release. I've experienced both.

Take the weta King Kong vs. V Rex statue. The retail was $495 when it came out. I was able to get one brand new a year or so ago for $99 (actually $69 after Live.com cashback). It's a great statue and huge, but they made too many of them. I'd have been pissed if I paid retail originally.

At the other end of the scale is something like the Gentle Giant AT-AT driver mini-bust. They underproduced these by quite a lot, and even some of the people who preordered them didn't get their orders filled. I ended up having to pay double retail, even though it had just come out. The Garindan bust is a similar case, although I luckily managed to get that one for retail (but only after quite a while of searching).

The point is that edition size does matter, and not just for the feeling it gives you. It's easy to say "buy what you like" but nobody likes to spend more than they have to, right?

To me, this is the only time edition size really matters.

The Scout and Speederbike PF is another good example. They made 1500 of those things! It's a wonderful piece and I really like mine, but if they had produced five or six hundred instead of 1500, it would be a grail. As it is, they still can't even sell out of them on their site with a discount.

Good Lord, people are still going on about ES? That horse has been beaten to death TO many times. :horse Jedi Luke is probably the only PF that I don't care eating a loss long term just because of his badassery; I don't see me as being a true fan by doing this as I see me as being impatient.

If I like a statue, I am going to get it regardless of ES. However, ES makes a HUGE differences on whether I buy it direct or not.

Examples of what I paid for my Star Wars PFs:
  • Darth Maul EX PF~ $225
  • Slave Leia EX PF~ 230
  • Tusken Raider EX PF~ $200
  • Boba Fett EX PF~ $225
  • General Grievous PF~ $290

Most of those prices were shipped, so that is, what, me saving close to $500?

So you "true fans" that want to pay full retail, go right ahead. I will keep waiting for other "true fans" to sell theirs to me at an outrageous discount.

Now, let's get back to the topic at hand:

The more I see that pic of the Premium Luke up in the site banner at the top the more I'm realizing that if I had the 1/6 scale figure I'd never pose him that way. Not digging it.

I think a grail is considered your most favorite piece and shouldn't be determined solely on 500 pcs vs. 1500 pcs.

that's what I was saying earlier in this thread. I even tried to see it from other people's point of view by picturing him circling Vader in a duel, but I just couldn't since he's not gonna be displayed in a dio style. But I still won't be passing up on him, I might actually just cancel from SS and get it from somewhere else since I don't care about the gun hand

Not sure you could pose the 1/6th like this :)
I like the pose and really dont care that I didnt see him do this in the movie!

I'm pretty much brand new to this whole collecting thing, and although I think the Luke PF looks great, I can't stand him in Jedi. Can't really put my finger on why, but ever since I was little, hated him in it.

On the other hand, love Luke in Empire. Like I said I'm new to this, so could you guys maybe tell me, what do you think the chances of seeing a Luke in his Bespin outfit PF?

I think he did pose like this in Jedi...right after he struck Vader down and saw his hand..realized what was up..and he was turning around just about ready to throw his lightsaber down.

Yeah. It was a kind of Captain Kirk, ready-for-anything, melodramatic, half-crouched, half-turning pose. That was his action leitmotif for the whole movie.
