Not to get too off-topic but if it makes you feel any better in the Avengers art book they stated that they went with the Ultimates look for Hawkeye because at the beginning of the movie he's essentially just a badass SHIELD agent with a bow and they couldn't think of a good reason he'd be the one agent with fancy purple spandex.

Now that he's a full fledged Avenger I bet we'll see him in something closer to his 616 attire in Avengers 2. We know that Joss likes to keep the looks as close to the comics as possible (even to a fault as we saw with Cap.)

Well it's not the attire that bugs me so so much (though yeah, it bugs me that he's not required to have anything approaching the 616 look because I guess the character isn't as important as some others who did retain some semblance of that), but the personality and attitude. Hawkeye was never a bad-ass assassin when I read comics he was in. He probably is now since Marvel is creatively bankrupt and relies on the movies to dictate what their characters look and act like. He was more like movie Tony Stark than comic Tony Stark is--a smart ass frequently cracking jokes, extremely cocky, even challenging Cap for control of the team from time to time. Not some special ops assassin guy. But. . .it is what it is. Didn't shock me, just disappointed me. Surely, they weren't about to give us another Avenger with a charm or charisma to challenge their golden boy RDJ, so that probably played as big a role as anything else.

I'm sure they will tweak it but I doubt they do it that much.

I'm not so sure about this Render fella, he doesn't sound like he exists. I'm goin to say he's NOT spot on! :dunno

I agree. He's too much trouble. They should just kill him off in an end credits sequence before Avengers 2. :lecture

Well a good badass is still better than a bad smartass.

Imagine:

Hawkeye: "It's the shield right? Chicks love the shield."

Cap: "This is why Iron Man works alone." :monkey1

I guess. What is he, Rick Jones as Bucky there? :lol

Wouldn't bug me too much if they did honestly. He's not the character I liked from the comics and didn't do too much to endear himself to folks watching the movie. I like seeing Hawkeye on the big screen in some capacity, but when you've essentially recreated a character from scratch and just gave him very superficial similarities to the one many readers know, it kinda reigns in the enthusiasm.

Apparently that's not the case with Amazing Spider-Man. :lol

I haven't seen that one yet, so I will reserve judgment. . .but I will say that I think it worked with Nolan's Joker. I know you're no fan Nam, but I think it was a very interesting take and, though inferior to the comic version(s), worked well on the big screen. Hawkeye, alternatively, was just made less appealing across the board.

I thought Joker only worked in the context of TDK and given that it was still a halfassed take because Nolan's a chicken____ when it comes to tackling the more fantastic aspects of characters. As for Hawkeye, I don't think he's yet seen quite enough of anything to really develop the character. Black Widow had substantially more screen time in IM2 than he did in Thor and before we get to know him in Avengers, he's Loki's tool and then only brought back to assist in the finale of the film. It's one of the reasons why I wish Feige would consider a Widow/Hawkeye espionage movie so that we get to know them a little better and Hawkeye can have more character development.

hawkeye? the guy that brought down some super dupper fancy flying aircraft carrier with one arrow?

Snake Eyes prolly could though.

Oh, thank goodness! I was wondering where the Avengers discussion went. I am glad I found it in full swing right here in the Snake Eyes and Timber thread. Don't know why I didn't think to look here earlier.
