^ I was presupposing the Prometheus never existed.
We are all paying for , right now, the cost of producing the Prometheus.
You can still find loose Prometheus bodies at dealer shops loose. Finding True Types isn't impossible, but they are considerably more desirable across the board.
It's too late now, but I do think "leasing" the True Type would have been much more versatile for collectors in general. It might not have worked the best with Snake Eyes ( as he had a body suit) but most other GI Joe figures could have benefited.
Something to consider is people are already paying 30 extra to change out the Prometheus with a True Type. SST can operate under economies of scale to drive down the price of a staple in their sets, individual collectors can't do that.
Again, though, you're ignoring the cost. And in the end result, it's cheaper for Sideshow to create their own body (which I'm certain has paid for itself by now), vs. having to pay licensing fees to continually utilize another company's product. The higher price on these figures, IMO, stems from the sheer amount of accessories Sideshow's been packing them with, from extra headsculpts, to firearms, mags, etc., and not the Pro. Fees which are subsequently passed on to the customer and licensing the TT from HT would only increase the MSRP of every release. Besides, like HT's TT which didn't start out perfect to begin with either, I think we'll see better upgrades to the Pro with each continual release.
