So Sideshow wants me to shatter mine before they'll send a replacement. Still have some work to do but this is as far as I got tonight and thought you guys would like to see what the underlying body looks like. I can tell all of you right here right now...this this thing can take a serious beating and maintain ALL it's form. it is INCREDIBLY DURABLE! took me two hours to get this far. I bent and twisted the legs and they ALWAYS came back to their original state within SECONDS. The body is NOT hollow but the arms are. the boot area is solid plastic with steel rods in them.

That resinworx is way overpriced.

That's what custom pieces cost. Fully sculpted and hand painted to the highest quality, usually always sub 100 edition size. People don't mind paying for quality ( Look at XM studios). I have with both my Wolverine and Magneto statue's and they are my favorite pieces.

It's hard to call it overpriced when guys are forking out $400 for a plastic doll. :wink1:

Hey Federico,

In reading through your points above, I’m getting the impression that you might be new to this particular category of collectible statue (but please don’t hesitate to correct me if that’s wrong). The term “Premium Format Figure” was pioneered (or at least evolved) by Sideshow to describe a particular type of product. When we see the term PF in the context of these collectibles, it is understood by collectors that this is a mixed media statue. Meaning that only in the most rare of occasions will the piece be fully sculpted. We expect and desire clothing elements to be included among the sculpted details with most of us believing that the more cloth and the less sculpt the better. So the idea that SS came up with the cloth suit for the MoS piece as a vehicle to simplify production at the factory and thereby reduce the necessary expertise of individual painters in China is simply incorrect.

:exactly:

It even says that on Wikipedia.

I do believe that among the reasons for the change to PVC for this piece was almost certainly the greater ease by which factory workers could get the suit in place on the figure while presenting a completed piece as true to the movie depiction as possible (with no saggy armpits).

Yeah might of been easier for them but I still think it is possible for this piece to have been mass produced with polystone. It was probably just harder and more time consuming to do and like I said before they were probably scared of the problems of Batman PF being repeated.

Very well said regarding the overall dynamics of the issue.

The sculpt does look very true to the proto. My problem with the statue (from the very beginning) is that the sculpt is not a very convincing Henry Cavill likeness. Just my opinion though.

Yeah I don't understand when people can say it looks different, I can't see any difference at all and like you I was never fond of the sculpt to begin with, the major thing that Trevor nailed that Hot Toys missed was the jaw shape. Hot Toy's jaw shape is not square or chiseled like the jaw on this PF.

That resinworx is way overpriced.
There's a lot I like a lot about it. It seems to have a nice sculpt, love the pose, the whole sculpt in general.
But with the picture of the painted piece, it looks like a big kotobukiya. And its $900?!!!

One of the main thing that got to me buy this pf is the fact that its fully clothed.
As much as I loved the Cap TFA pf, I always wished it was all cloth.
I didnt pre-order this piece til I found out after watching one of the youtube vids on comic con where someone mentioned that
this whole thing was fully clothed.

Well at least the bottom half is cloth, unlike the Winter soldier one which is fully sculpted. :(

Thanks for the detailed information and picture of it all smashed up, so many things how now been confirmed and a lot of things have now been proven wrong.

Aren't they always :dunno.. Last thing you want to do around here is pay attention to the chirpy birds when a piece starts shipping

Well before Gipetto0812 smashed their's up, we all thought that the whole body was hollow, not only due to the weight but the fact that you could squeeze it. Turn's out that only the arms are hollow, so now we know that the entire statue is not hollow. Not that really matters but it's nice to know the details of these things.

Thanks for sharing. So it looks like you can't shatter it then, huh? You had to take it a part, lol. What was wrong with yours?

no problem. Figured some folks would like to see what it looks like

100% agree! That's why I love my SW and LOTR PFs. They're all for the most part, covered in fabric clothing with only certain elements being sculpted. This is why I haven't POed the Wonder Woman PF as great as it looks. It's not a PF IMO...its a Maquette. IMO, the fabric elements is what makes these feel like museum pieces. They're beyond fully sculpted.

I was able to "shatter" it once I drilled enough holes in it to create break points. as for what was wrong, there was glue residue around the collar, the wires were poking out of the cape and worst of all the collar piece wasn't glued down properly so there was a gap at the back underneath the cape with the suit torn/frayed around the gap

Yeah never thought it would look like that with silver parts etc.

Yeah I agree, do you think the Keaton PF is a Maquette to then?

I am surprised you were able to shatter it at all, since PVC is like hard rubber, it doesn't break like plastic.

it's PVC and you're surprised it doesn't shatter easy and warps. lol, wow.

:exactly:

Enterbay PVC statues are proof of that.

Totally different plastic (PVC). Obviously the material is not rigid like polystone and so there's a bit of give at the joints, but Supes will not be warping with age. On the other hand, if the orbit of the earth is altered and we dip into the sun a few days a year, there's a chance he could melt.

This is getting ridiculous, guys... We'd rather Supes have been polystone, because we like polystone better. He isn't polystone. If that's a deal breaker for you, that's more than fair, and I don't think anyone would fail to respect that opinion or anyone who decides that they can't live with that. But can we stop trying to come up with reasons why PVC was such a terrible idea? This is getting tiring.

And I don't understand why trolls are getting joy out of coming in here and dropping one line "LOL" comments on us and the slinking off for a few pages. You don't like? Point received. Now off to your caves...

Yep. That's definitely a "Superman Returns". Share some photos once you get the new one.

Only time will tell I guess, but not everyone's PVC statues have warped, it's just a common problem but not a problem that is inevitable.

This is not the only thread people are complaining about it though, but I agree, no point going on about it. I am only here because this thread has become informative like with Gipetto0812 showing us and telling us what Supes is made of. And also still like looking at the pics of this figure as I am on the fence about it. I would have no problems buying a 1/4 scale Hot Toys figure that looked the same at this price.

Some maybe venting like I was, but some people just want to make jokes for the sake of it and I must admit I have laughed at what some people have said. Don't worry if it gets out of hand, I think the mods will eventually step in and delete their posts.

Great pun! :clap

No surprised...reassuring those who kept calling it "cheap plastic" that it wasn't :dunno:

Just because vinyl doesn't shatter doesn't make it less cheap. The fact that the poster could bend and twist the arms makes this laughable to me. I want statues not Matel dolls. I would accept resin/vinyl heads if they would match hot toys or blitzway in likeness but they are not.

Yea I think the silver body with black shading was their way of recreating the movie look b/c Cavil wore a metallic silver muscle suit under the blue mesh which game that awesome shine in the movie

As for the Keaton PF yes and no. It has the very nice fabric cape and I see it as unrealistic to think that SS would coat the body in rubber. But what would be cool is if they coated the body with that rubber texture paint that some of the Batman Begins Mattel figures had. I always liked that. It felt like rubber but wasn't.

And for breaking my MOS PF. It didn't really shatter. The holes I drilled allowed for break points so when hitting it with the hammer, the plastic cracked. I just kept wailing on it until it cracked enough for me to take pliers and "tear" it I guess is the best way to describe it. Either way, I found out that this PF is very well made regardless of it being PVC instead of Polystone :)
